Hi there,
we are using latest RDM clients v2025.2.21 with DVLS server v2025.2.4.0.
We created a password template with these settings:
Then we created a credential entry template and used previously created password template:
When we create a new credential entry using this entry template and use "Generate" button it ignores characters that should be excluded based on the password template:
Because of this the password doesn't meet the complexity requirements and can't be saved.
If we use context menu "Password generator"
and select our password template it correctly offers passwords without characters that should be excluded:
Weird thing is that if we change password length in the password template then the "Generate" button correctly generates passwords with modified length, so this setting is not ignored as Excluded characters.
Is this expected behavior? Why does quick option "Generate" ignore excluded characters? Do we really have to open the "Password generator" context menu, select our password template, generate passwords and then select one?
Thanks for the help!
BR,
Martin

Hello Martin,
Thank you for contacting us on this matter!
I reproduced your issue only on an MS SQL Server Data Source, not a Devolutions Server. I still reported the problem to our QA Team to see if they can reproduce the behaviour on DVLS.
We will let you know with more information as soon as possible. In the meantime, if you have any other questions, please let us know.
Best regards,
Maxim Robert

Hi,
I just tried it using RDM client 2025.3.21 and DVLS 2025.3.6.0, but it still isn't working. It uses excluded characters as before, so we still need a fix for this.
BR,
Martin
Hello,
We will investigate this and come back to you.

Hello Martin,
I configured the same Password Policy you use, and I cannot reproduce the issue with DVLS 2025.3.8 and RDM 2025.3.22.
Could you try these versions and let me know if the issue still exists?
Thank you for your collaboration.
Best regards,
Érica Poirier
Hello,
We've implemented additional fixes for this particular issue. These should come with the 2025.3.26 version.

Hi,
just want to let you know that I tried it with DVLS 2025.3.11 and RDM 2025.3.26 and it seems to be fixed.
Thanks for the help!
