Export Credential Domain Only

Hi,

I would like to export my inventory, including the credentials objects, but only their domain.
Use case:

  • Person A is part of team P,
  • Person A prepares a new custmer folder with their own credentials, which are configured against customer domain ,
  • Person A wishes to share the inventory with team P , but exporting with credentials, inclused Person A's username and password, which is not desireable as each team member has their own... However, exporting without credentials, means each member has to manually create the credential object, even though they are all basically the same, including having the same domain, just different username & password ...

Since I would like it to be encrypted in file, I don't imagine I can edit the file itself (the password protected export file), nor would that be the way by which I would like to do that...

Is there a solution for this already in the product? (In any tier?)
If not, I think this would be a good addition.

Hello!

Thank you for reaching out.

At the moment, no feature precisely fulfills what you're requesting. I'll leave the case to the development team to see if it's worth implementing, but I do have a different technique that has proven very useful.

When I need to export such a structure, I usually create the credentials (left empty) and override them with User Specific Settings. The downside, however, is that a user may have the reflex of setting his own credentials in the entry directly; this may result in unwanted credentials being shared by others.

Another method is to use the 'Find By Name (User Vault)' credentials linking method. The main reason I like this one is that it is less prone to mistakes, and when a user doesn't have the User Vault entry, he simply gets prompted that RDM cannot find the user vault entry, and receives a "select credentials" prompt.

Does this make sense?

Thank you for letting us know.

Best regards,

I think what I can do for now is the option of exporting partially empty credentials.

  • Copy-out credentials from the object,
  • Remove the credential from the object, leaving a partially clean one in place (domain),
  • Export,
  • Re-set credentials.
