IOS-XR unable to SSH on 2025.2.14.0

IOS-XR unable to SSH on 2025.2.14.0

avatar

Getting a generic error "An unexpected error occured. Error code: FAIL; Non specific error." upon SSHing to any of our IOS-XR devices after upgrade to 2025.2.14.0. Checked various other device types and no others have the issue that I have found.

I do notice that on devices that have a MOTD, that does show up before the error comes up and closes the sesssion.

Hi Nick,

Could you please double-check the following in your SSH entry?

  1. Go to the Advanced tab and make sure “Skip environment variable setup” is enabled.
  2. In the same tab, click Environment variables and confirm the list is completely empty (no variables set).

If the issue still happens after that, could you send us new SSH logs with Verbose level 2? Here’s how to generate them: https://docs.devolutions.net/rdm/kb/how-to-articles/send-ssh-logs-verbose/

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out on this matter.

Can you share any related logs from Help > Application Logs?

Can you also share any verbose logs that you can configure via the entry properties under Terminal > Advanced?
https://docs.devolutions.net/rdm/kb/how-to-articles/send-ssh-logs-verbose/

You could also try running a debug profile, as this might help as well:
https://docs.devolutions.net/rdm/commands/help/profiler/

I will send you a link in your private messages on the forum so you can share all the information directly.

Best regards,

@Jacob Lafrenière

Jacob,

Thanks for the help. I've uploaded the log from one of the devices, it seems to hang up here "Sending environment variable request: LANG=en_US.UTF-8". Performance profiling did not seem to provide any useful detail.

Thanks,

Tynan
