Proper sort in Tree View

Hi,

The current sorting method where you manually assign a numeric value to each individual entry is nice for your small home lab with 3 servers, but when you're managing dozens of systems with several dozen servers each, this is not really practical.

I need to be able to just drag-drop them into their relative place in the list.

Hell, I wouldn't even mind if this was behind a pay wall... But right now this app still feels like it was made for sysadmin amatuers and not professionals. It's a small wonder RemoteNG is still more popular, despite being objectively worse.

(Edit : Also, I think it's high time it has not just drag-and-drop manual sorting, but auto-sorting based on a set of user-inputted rules such as "software folders first, then customers, then entries, then sites" , or "folders with 'PROD' before 'DR' , before 'TEST'" , etc...)

Hello,

Thank you for the feedback! Those are two very interesting features. We will have to discuss how best to implement this but I see a lot of benefits to having both a more intuitive way to sort the entries (what you mention with the drag-and-drop), as well as having a way to configure sorting rules. I'll open some internal tickets.

Additionally, could you confirm your current RDM environment by answering these questions:

  • Are you using RDM solo, or as a team?
  • What datasource are you using?

This information will help us come up with a better solution for these features.

As always, we'll monitor this thread for additional feedback to help us prioritize this issue. We're always listening to our community and it's these kinds of requests and feedback that help guide the development of our products. If you have any additional pain points when using the application, I encourage you to open additional requests, or contact our support team to assist you.

Hi,

Solo (I am not yet willing to recommend this to my team) , the local sqlite(I believe) datasource.
I will continue to use this, if I like it enough, I will recommend it to the TL, and we'll see if that catches on or not, and then if it does, move forward accordingly.
(Which is why this is a private spam-email account, but heck, if I grow to like it, even if the TL rejects it, I wouldn't mind paying the solo-sub for it. Just not in it's current iteration.)

For now, sorting is but one of my pains.
