Serial over IP

avatar

Hello everyone,
I'm currently working with a Moxa NPort 5100 Series serial device server and aiming to integrate it into Remote Desktop Manager (RDM) version 2025.1.29.0 (64-bit). My primary goal is to access a serial device remotely through RDM.
Here's what I've attempted so far:

  • Connection via PuTTY: I've successfully established a connection to the NPort device using PuTTY with an Rlogin session, utilizing the device's IP address and the appropriate port. This setup works flawlessly.
  • RDM Configuration Attempts: I tried to replicate this setup in RDM but noticed that there isn't a native Rlogin session type available. I also explored other session types like Telnet and SSH, but they didn't yield successful connections.
  • Alternative Approaches: I'm open to alternative methods of integration, such as using virtual COM ports or other supported protocols, but I'm unsure of the best path forward within RDM.

Has anyone successfully integrated a Moxa NPort 5100 Series device into RDM? If so, could you share the steps or configurations that worked for you? Any guidance or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance for your assistance!

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out regarding this matter.

It doesn’t appear that we natively support the Rlogin connection type you mentioned. However, we do offer a PuTTY import feature in RDM that might do the trick!

Could you try importing a working PuTTY session to see if the Rlogin configuration is preserved? (Start by creating an entry, and search PuTTY!)

If that doesn't work, it’s likely that this would need to be submitted as a feature request.

Best regards,
