Add option to automatically synchronice vaults on background
1 vote
Please consider adding option to RMD client to sync all authorized vaults on background every time (or once a day) when RDM client is opened.
I see 2 settings relate to this, one in systems settings "allow sync all vaults (background) in system settings on devolutions server. Other on RDM client data source settings.
The RDM client data source settings is missing option "on client start". Current options are disabled, manual, on first load.
Optionally opening the RDM client could reset offline use timer for all authorized vaults. This is the reason i am requesting this feature. All vaults should have defined time to use in offline mode from RDM client was last used. Without the need to actually access the vault to reset the timer.

Hello,
Did you try the "on first load" setting that you mentioned? What this setting does is the first time you connect to that datasource (which is usually when you open the application), it will sync the vaults in the background. From what I understand this is what you'd like.
Additionally, when you synchronize your vaults that way, it should also reset the "expiration" on these caches as you did synchronize them.
Let me know if this works for you.

Yes we have set this on and during client startup it shows the orange cylinder on the lower right corner when it sycs.
What confused me is that when i asked about this setting from support i received response:
Hello,
Thank you for your patience.
On first load means that synchronization occurs only during the initial loading of a vault, rather than continuously across all vaults.
In short synchronization happens only when a vault is opened. If the vault is not opened, it will not sync.
Perhaps there is some misunderstandings but my end goal is to have RDM client reset the offline timer every time it is opened on all authorized vaults, and preferably synchronize them for changes too (once when opened).
There is also auto refresh option under data source / advanced. What is the function of this setting?
Hello,
I can confirm that the "on first load" option is exactly what you're looking for in this case. As I described, it will initiate the background vault synchronization when you connect to this datasource for the first time after opening RDM. This is also what the option is described as on our help topic on the feature: https://docs.devolutions.net/rdm/kb/how-to-articles/synchronize-vaults-background/
I'll make sure our support team's updated with this information so we don't confuse our users with the way these configurations work.

When enabled, this auto-refresh will perform a refresh of the vault you are currently on (it's the same as pressing F5 or the refresh button in the RDM toolbar at the top), at a specified time interval. I don't think it would matter for the "expiration" of the offline file, as you're already connected to that vault so the timer for the expiration was already reset at that point.
I hope this clarifies the behavior and that it works for your scenario. Please let us know if you encounter any issue with this.
