black screen

We are using RDM 2024.3.29.0 64-bit.

We have some problems with RDP connections by the RDM via VPN to a Windows 2022 server when AuthLite 2FA is installed and active. When we try to connect to a machine via RDP in embedded mode we get a black screen, it takes about 15 seconds, and the connection is closed by the remote server.

If AuthLite is not installed on the remote server, the connection in initiated as usual.
When we connect to a machine in our local network with AutLite installed, we don’t have any problems.

Fun fact. If I connect to a machine via VPN with installed AuthLite by the Microsoft Remotedesktopconnection OR with external view, it’s working. With the session active, I can take over the RDP-connection with the RDM without any problems!

I already had a look if something is different between our local servers and the server, we try to access via VPN but I couldn’t find any difference. They all are in the exact same active directory domain as our local servers, with the same GPOs. The time is correct. It doesn’t matter if I use OATH token or my YubiKey. I probably tried all settings in RDM, but without success.

Do you have any idea what could cause the problem?

Hello,

Thank you for contacting Devolutions support.

We have noticed that some clients are experiencing this issue with Windows Server 2022 and up. It appears that Microsoft has introduced a malfunction in its recent updates.

A fix seems to be available with update KB5052093 for Windows 11, which suggests that a similar patch should be released soon for Windows Server 2022.

In the meantime, you can try the following solution on your server by applying this Group Policy:
Local Computer Policy > Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Remote Desktop Services > Remote Desktop Session Host > Connections

  • Set "Enable Network Detection on the Server" to Enabled
  • Then disable "Connection Time Detection" and "Continuous Network Detection"

Feel free to test this and let me know your results.

Thank you.
Best regards,

Jacob Lafrenière
