Azure VDI Session Host synchronizer for RDP and RDP Shadow features
3 votes
We would like to be able to synchronize our Azure VDI Session Hosts to DVLS / RDM to use as RDP entries. We would also like RDP Shadow features for these entries as well.
Hello,
Thank you for your request. By Azure VDI session hosts, do you mean Azure VMs? If so, we've received this request a few times and I could link this thread to our internal ticket. Otherwise, could you let me know which Azure feature you're looking for? I'm not the most familiar with their terminology so I might be conflating both terms.
For RDP shadowing, this is already available. My answer here should still be applicable:
You can't open shadowing sessions embedded inside RDM but the feature is there. You need to select your RDP entry and right click > view > console management > Terminal services console. In the console you will have the button to connect in shadow mode to an ongoing valid session.
Keep in mind the restrictions for shadowing are the same as with using mstsc.exe, which includes needing to be on the same domain and being an administrator.

Hubert,
They are similar and they do show up under the Virtual Machines section also, but Azure Virtual Desktop is it's own entity (section) and runs pools of VMs and enables scalability. I'm not sure if they are handled differently on the Azure back end or not.
Thanks,

Thank you for the additional information. I'll group both requests inside our internal ticket, we'll figure out whether the APIs required to sync are the same or not when we look at implementing this.
