SSH: Connection to entry w/ empty password leads to "FAIL_PERMISSION_DENIED"

SSH: Connection to entry w/ empty password leads to "FAIL_PERMISSION_DENIED"

Hey there,

I just updated the client to version 2024.3.27.0 64-bit.
When I try to open a saved SSH connection (host and username is saved, password is empty) I get the error message "(-3) Permission denied: incorrect credentials or security settings prevent the operation to complete."
Before the update this worked fine and I was always prompted for the password.

Workaround: Edit the entry and tick "Always ask password"
Is there any new security setting preventing me from using entries without saved passwords unless above option is checked?

Thanks and KR
Jan Lukas

Hello,

We made a change in 2024.3.27.0 to be able to support sending an empty password in SSH, SFTP and SCP entries. This means if you have an empty password without "Always ask password" checked, RDM will first try to send an empty password to the server. Then, depending on how the server is configured, it will either prompt for the password, or deny the connection entirely (this part is out of our hands).
The solution is as you've outlined, checking the "always ask password" box if you wish to be prompted. You can use the batch edit feature to edit this setting across multiple entries if it's something you need.

Hello,

thank you for the quick response and explanation of that new feature. I read it in the release notes but I understood it wrong.
This makes sense now and I will batch edit my entries.
