Hello,
We are trying RDM for our company for 20 technicians, several of whom work on Macs.
We have a problem with French Azerty Mac keyboards to connect to Windows servers in French with Remote Desktop (RDP)
The Mac keyboard is AZERTY, also keyboard on the server side, but as a PC keyboard. As a result, it's very difficult to type special characters, like @ \ or #
We've tried modifying the settings (UNICODE, French Keyboard, etc) but nothing works. How can I get the Mac keyboard set up correctly on a PC?
It works fine with the Microsoft Remote Desktop application.
Thanks
Hello,
To start, I will need you to clarify three things. First, When you say tried modifying the settings, you are talking about the the keyboard section in local ressources in the edit menu of RDP? And you tried both changing the Keyboard layout and the Send input as unicode?
If yes, did you log off from the PC session and log back in, not just closed the RDP? The changes won't apply if it didn't log off at least once after they are applied.
To finish, just in case, does the PC session have the asked keyboard?
Best regards,
Michel Lambert

First of all, thank you very much for your feedback.
Yes, that's right. I'm talking about the “keyboard” section. Like your screenshot.
I hadn't logged out on every try. So I've just tried again, disconnecting and reconnecting. Unfortunately, the same result.
And yes, the PCs in question do have the requested keyboard.
The closest result is when I use UNICODE. But many characters no longer work. Like é à ç &, and many others.
Thanks for your help. I think I'm not the only one with this kind of problem?
Hello,
Alright, we are going to open a ticket for this issue and see what we can do.
So just to be sure we have the rights benchmark for our tests both the Mac and the PC on the server are on French Azerty keyboards.
While we are trying to reproduce, can we ask you to test some of yours RDP on the Microsoft Remote Desktop(soon to be Windows app) to see if you have the same behavior?
That might help us.
Best regards,
Michel Lambert
Hello,
II can confirm that I use the Mac's AZERTY keyboard, as well as a physical AZERTY keyboard, and the Windows server is configured with an AZERTY keyboard.
We use Windows Remote Desktop on the Mac without any keyboard problems from many years, including in UNICODE mode (to get around the powershell 7 block).
Here's an example of what I get when I want to type accented characters in UNICODE mode
é ->
§ ->
è ->
ç ->
à ->
ù ->
Best Regards
Hello,
The ticket is opened, we are going to look into that and we will keep you updated on the situation.
In the meantime, if there's anything, don't hesitate to communicate with us.
Best regards,
Michel Lambert
Hello,
The problem seems to have been partially solved with today's update (2024.3.4.2).
In UNICODE mode, I do have access to accented French characters, such as é , à, ç, è) but none of the characters with this type of accent: ^ and ¨ , such as â ê î ô or ë ï ä
Thanks for the update
Hello,
Glad to know it partially solved the problem. We will keep looking for what we can do for the missing characters.
Best regards,
Michel Lambert
