SSH connection fails with FAIL_CONNECTION_RESET

SSH connection fails with FAIL_CONNECTION_RESET

avatar

Hello, unfortunately I cannot establish an SSH connection to a server and get this error message:

Here are the details:
- Connection is established via an active Cisco VPN connection
- With Putty it works on the same computer
- Only username/password, no PK
- I have already activated all algorithms in the Advanced tab, the interactive login, display error messages and logging is also activated.
- RDM 2024.2.20.0 is installed

Do you have any idea what I could be doing wrong?

Thank you very much!

Christian

Hello,

Thank you for getting in touch with us. To better assist you, could you kindly provide us with the following information:

  • A screenshot of your SSH entry configuration.

  • Did the problem started after an update?

  • Does the issue persist without the VPN?

  • Could you try to reproduce the issue with the Verbose and the logs activated? Here's a helpful topic about this. I will also send you the information directly to provide us with this information.

https://docs.devolutions.net/rdm/kb/rdm-windows/how-to-articles/send-ssh-logs-verbose/

Once we have this information, we will be better equipped to diagnose and resolve the issue.

Best regards,

Maxim Robert

Hello Maxim,
Thank you for your message.

I don't have any special settings. I have created an ‘SSH terminal’ connection and entered the IP address for Host.

Unfortunately, I can't say that because I have only used RDM for RDP connections so far, this is my first SSH connection. I am currently using Putty (on the same computer).

The server is only accessible via VPN. I connect via Cisco AnyConnect Client, which is installed on the computer, and then connect successfully via Putty. Only in RDM it does not work.
RDP servers or connections, which are also only accessible via the same VPN connection, have been working in RDM for years.

I have activated logging as suggested and this is shown in the log:

[27.08.2024 07:23:56] Devolutions Protocols version: 2024.7.26.1 Windows
[27.08.2024 07:23:56] Terminal font: Courier New [Courier New, fixed=True]
[27.08.2024 07:23:56] Starting SSH, verbose level: 2
[27.08.2024 07:23:56] Setting up connection
[27.08.2024 07:23:58] Connecting to port: 22 (IP any)
[27.08.2024 07:24:01] Disconnection in progress
[27.08.2024 07:24:01] Bytes sent: 0, Bytes received: 0
[27.08.2024 07:24:01] Packets sent: 0, Packets received: 0
[27.08.2024 07:24:01] Kex completed: 0
[27.08.2024 07:24:01] Disconnecting

As quickly as RDM always drops the connection, it doesn't seem to reach the server at all. RDM does not seem to use the existing VPN connection, but why does it do this with RDP connections?

Many thanks and best regards
