Bell behavior on out of focus tabs

Bell behavior on out of focus tabs

avatar

Hello!

I've just started using the built-in SSH terminal (was just starting a PuTTY session) and I've noticed that the bell will ring EVERY time there is output on a tab that is out of focus. For instance, if I start a 'top' session, then switch to another tab, at every refresh of the top display, the bell goes off. This does not occur if the session is using PuTTY.

Is this the expected behavior, or did I miss something in the setup that would prevent this? I do want the bell, but I just don't want it on non-focus tabs. Or is there a way to set it so the tab flashes but no bell, if it's not in focus?

Thank you.

I'm using RDM 2024.2.20.0 64biton WIndows 10 22H2 with a Local Data Source. Included is a screenshot of the advanced terminal tab for the SSJ session. Essentially I'm only using defaults everywhere.

Hello,

Sorry for the delay,

Unfortunately, after testing this, I couldn't reproduce the issue. Could you please provide us with a recording of the issue? It will allow us to investigate further.

I sent you the information to send the recording in a Direct message.

I have uploaded a PowerPoint recording of the screen. I start the top process, switch to another tab, the system starts beeping when the top display refreshes, when I go back to that tab the beeping stops. This also happens if the RDM goes out of focus, like switching to another window.

Presentation1 shows the behavior when switching tabs
Presentation2 shows the behavior when switching to another window.

Yes. Set to Sound. The session itself is set to Default.

Hello,

Thank you for your swift reply!

Could you try to set it to Default? This should remove the Bell completely.

Thank you for letting us know. If you have any other questions, feel free to let us know.

There is no Default, so I picked None. That removed the bell sound completely. So I set the session Bell from Default to Sound and the same behavior came back.

Hello,

Thank you for your response!

After some investigation, the sound of the bell is normal behaviour. If it is set to "Sound," the Bell will trigger every time a line is added to the terminal.

If you have any other questions, feel free to let us know.

Best regards,
