Connect to existing session

avatar

Hi there,

I have a single user application that runs in desktop mode (so can't run as a service) on a Windows box. I have a couple of people that need to periodically RDP to that server. Will RDM allow users to connect to an existing session (not concurremtly) in which the single user app is running?

I don't want separate sessions to be created, users MUST connect to the session in which the application is running.

Is this possible, and how would I configure the clients please?

Hello Brian,

Thank you for reaching out to us regarding this,

I'm not sure I understand, are you looking to configure RDM in a terminal service environment? If so, we have the following knowledge base article regarding this:
https://docs.devolutions.net/rdm/installation/client/terminal-services/

Let me know if I misunderstand,

Hi Samuel,

thanks for the quick reply, and apologies for not properly explaining what I'm trying to achieve.

I have a Windows Server 2019 machine that runs a specialised, industry specific application. This is a desktop app that cannot be run as a service. It's protected by a USB "dongle". The server runs with a specific user ("appuser") permanently logged in, and the app runs in that session. This has been running nicely for a few years.

However, the application users now have a need to occasionally RDP to that server to change options in the application. There will never be more than one person at a time RDPing to the server, but one of three people could be responsible for doing so, on any given day.

Can RDM be configured so that those users can connect to the same (appuser) user session that the application is running in, without spawning new connections? - The RDP users need to connect to that same session because the USB security device gets very upset if more than one user tries to run the application (from a different RDP session, for example).

Regards,

Brian.

Hello Brian,

Thank you for your reply,

I see. To clarify, currently, when attempting to connect from RDM via RDP with the same credentials, it is creating a new connection instead of disconnecting an existing user if he was already connected?

Do you encounter the same behavior while attempting the connection outside RDM with MSTSC?

Let me know,

Best regards,
