User Specific Settings - Prompt for Creds

User Specific Settings - Prompt for Creds

avatar

Hello,

I am wondering if it is possible to override credentials with user-specific settings to make it so that it prompts for creds every time? I thought I would do this by setting "credentials" to "none", however I do not see "none" in the list of options when I go to override credentials with user-specific settings (I only have custom, linked (vault), my personal acct, my privileged acct or linked (user vault)).

I do see that I could set it to "custom" and leave all fields blank, in which case I get the native RDP prompt to enter some creds (but not the "RDM credential prompt"). Is this the recommended way to accomplish this?

In a slightly-related question, is it possible to have RDM prompt for creds from a list, for example where I could choose some creds I have saved in my user vault or something?

Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Hello David,

Thank you for reaching out to us regarding this,

  • Could you please specify the version of RDM you are currently using?
  • What type of data source are you using?

That being said, you are correct, from my understanding using the Username Password and leaving the credentials empty would be the only option in this case,

For your second question, would using the Linked (User Vault) option with "Prompt on connection" work for you? This should provide you with a list of all credentials entry available in your User Vault.

Let me know,

Best regards,

Hello, I am using v2023.3.39.0 and using SQL Server as our data source.

Leaving the creds empty when set to "custom" should be fine, I guess I was just wondering if I should be seeing the RDM credential prompt rather than the native RDP one, but either one would work so this scenario would be OK.

However, I think your other suggestion - using the "linked (user vault)" with "prompt on connection" rather than choosing a specific entry, actually does exactly what I was looking for! That way I can choose an entry if it is already in the user vault, otherwise I can still go to the "custom" tab and enter any credentials there manually if needed, so that is perfect!

Thank you! Really appreciate the help!
