Rockwell Automation remote connection

Hello,

We would like to be able to access "Rockwell Thinmanager" thin clients from RDM. ("Rockwell Automation" software)
These are not simple VNC clients, they seem to use the same port, but the negotiation with the client is unknown to us.
Would you have a solution or the possibility of making this remote connection work directly from RDM, as at present we are obliged to use the administration interface from the central "ThinManager Server" to operate "shadow", as they call it.

Regards,
Jerome J

Hello,

I'm not very familiar with this software, do you know if they offer an API to establish these connections? If they don't and the protocol used isn't standardized, then I'm not sure we can do much to integrate this within RDM at the moment.

"thinmanager" is an ecosystem with a "thinmanager server" that contains the configuration of all clients (modules, RDP config, VNC config, etc. and OS) and clients that can be :
- a proprietary thin client in industrial form, which loads its operating system (and modules) from the thinmanager server ;
- a Windows PC with a ThinManager executable which also loads its configuration from the thinmanager server.
These clients can display several screens simultaneously on one client, switch from one to the other, display industrial supervisory systems as well as simple remote offices, cameras, contain docker containers that can host various browsers and Citrix, which meets a number of needs.
We have a certain quantity of these, as well as other equipment.
You already offer Dameware, Remote Desktop and VNC, which meet most of our needs, but this new requirement is still pending.
To be able to connect to these devices remotely, we have no choice but to go through the thinmanager server application from the server hosting the application, and we'd like to be able, like VNC, to simply add a link to the ThinManager client to connect directly to it from RDM.
At the moment, Rockwell Automation doesn't seem to have the functionality to enable this remote connection, which is why we're coming to you to see if it's possible to find out about the problem, to see if it can be addressed directly by you, or failing that, if it's possible for you to get in touch with them to see if a solution built in collaboration could be envisaged?

Hello,

To perform an integration with their product we would need either an API, a command line, or something along those lines, which I wasn't able to find. Usually, getting this information goes more smoothly when the request comes from a user of their product. I would recommend you contact Rockwell Automation and ask if they have the necessary tools to allow such an integration in another application.

Hi Hubert,

Looks like ThinManager released an API from version 13: ThinManager API Documentation

Are you able to revisit this application?

Thanks,

Tim

Hello,

Thank you for the additional information, this is useful. We would probably need to configure a ThinManager environment internally to be able to properly test and develop this. For now, we'll keep an eye out for further interest in this potential integration, to help us prioritise this.
