"No Internet Connection" still hangs and waits for Internet

avatar

Good morning.

I have an environment that is completely 100% restricted to any outside internet connectivity whatsoever.

In that environment I have a VM running RDM specifically for those clients.

I have the option of "No Internet Connection" checked under the Options tab, and it still tries to make a backup of the database every single time I make a change, connect to an asset, etc.

Is there a way to fix RDM so when that option is enabled, it literally knows not to go out to the internet for anything it normally does?

It just sucks that regardless of that settings under Options, I have to set the Datasource to not back up when connected to that environment, then when I connect to another client environment that does allow internet access, I have to go back in to the Datasource options and re-enable backups.

Thanks!

Hello Chuck,

Thank you for reaching out to us regarding this,

Could you clarify which type of data source you are using? In your Signature, it says Hub Personal, but I'm assuming you're using a SQLite on this workstation is that correct?

If so, I'm wondering if a Cloud Backup is configured on the data source, to confirm this simply go under "File" -> "Data sources" then select your SQLite and press "Edit" (Pencil) you can then go under the "Backup" section and make sure this is not set to "Cloud Backup".

Let me know,

Best regards,

Yes, I am using the Licensed Version of RDM.

As far as Cloud backup, yes. As I mentioned, I have to change it from Cloud Backup to no backup when on clients that have restricted Internet requirements. Then when I am back on clients that do allow Internet, I have to re-enable the Cloud Backup.

This should not need to happen with the "No Internet Connection" box checked. It's kind of an oxy moron selection to tell the software there is no internet connection, but then it tries to reach out on the internet to make a connection. :-)

Hello Chuck,

Thank you for your reply,

I've discussed your case with our development team, we agree that this would be a good improvement to make, I will be creating a ticket internally regarding this behavior which will be linked to this thread so that we can keep you updated with any news.

Awesome Samuel.

Much appreciated. I'm glad they agree that it seems kind of pointless to try and make a cloud backup when you have "No Internet Connection" enabled that it tries to backup to the cloud.

Look forward to the updates.

Hi chuck,

We made the changes internally and added a warning message to the backup window when using "No internet Connection". This should be available starting with version 2024.2.17
