Anyway to use Windows Terminal for ssh instead of implemented terminal?

Hi,
I want to use Starship for ssh sessions. It works fine with Windows Terminal. Is there any chance to implement the possibility to use Windows Terminal for ssh sessions instead of the RDM Terminal?
Kind regards,
Nico
Hello Nico,
We have an entry type for Windows Terminal where you can specify the profile and parameters, did you try using this entry to achieve what you need?
We have much more control over our own terminal implementation compared to the Windows Terminal, so it's not likely that we can have as tight of an integration as we do with our SSH Shell entry. It would help to know what's lacking in the Windows Terminal implementation first and see how we could complement that to help your workflow.

Additionally, there's also a "remote command" field in the SSH Shell entry.
You could enter the command to start Starship there and see if it works. I'm not very knowledgeable in how Starship works but maybe this could help you have it work within RDM.

Hi Hubert,
I think a remote command didn't do the trick here, because Starship edits the Terminal application itself, not the shell on the remote computer. A Windows terminal session seems to be the most promising here, but I can't make it work right now. At the end its just a workaround because its just for me and I'm not going to create hundreds of SSH sessions to use Windows Terminal instead of the internal "Terminal" app.
I have trouble to test a "Windows Terminal" session. Is there any documentation how to set it up?
Hello,
Thank you for the test. I've opened a ticket so we can investigate what we could do to add support for this in our own terminal. I can't give you an estimate at the moment since we don't know very much about how Starship works or how it could fit into our own technology.
As for the Windows Terminal entry, we don't currently have documentation on it. What issue are you encountering with it?

Have to say,
I'm here for the same reason. Windows Terminal for Windows sysadmins is now the default terminal application for PowerShell, SSH and WSL. Having it inside RDM aside from Putty, etc in terminal default configuration would be great.
For example, I've set the RDM terminal font options like Windows Terminal that I find much more comfortable than Putty style.
The multi-pane (not tabs) Windows Terminal feature is another great point.
Hello Nicola,
We don't have a lot of control over the Windows Terminal integration in RDM, unlike the terminal we use for our SSH entries, so we're limited with how we could implement this.
If you're looking to use the Windows Terminal as your terminal for your SSH entries, I would recommend using the Windows Terminal entry and connecting from there. If you encounter any issue with this entry, I encourage you to let us know so we can investigate and see how we could improve it.

No problem, we can live with it.
It was just to add a +1 to the wish.
