RDM stating user server login not allowed via SQL Datasource

avatar

Good afternoon.

I am trying to set up a new RDM Environment utilizing SQL Express on one of my servers for multiple users to connect to. You folks just received the P/O for the licenses, so I am trying to get users set up prior.

I am having an issue within RDM. If I use the 'sa' account to connect to the SQL Server, everything runs fine. However, if I use a specified user, I continuously get an error message about the user doesn't have access to login.

However, I can take the same users and successfully log in to the SQL Server using SSMS, so I know they have access rights to actually log in to the server, even when RDM states they do not.

What am I missing? I am sure it is something extremely small and minuet.

I appreciate the help!

Hello,

While connected with your SA account on the SQL Server datasource via RDM, click on Administration -> Users, select the user that you are not able to connect with and press the blue hammer button at top. This should apply the proper permissions to your user and allow you to connect properly after that.

Best regards,

Thank you sir, that is EXACTLY what I was missing. I was even in that window yesterday before I logged off but never investigated. :-)

One more question...

I have a "Shared" Datasource that I have made available to the test users I created.

How can I get it set up so that a user can set the connection credentials to their specific credentials?

For instance.. If I am viewing "Shared" under "Test 1" user, when they set their KeyPass integrated credentials, when "Test 2" user views the "Shared" Datasource, they can set up the credentials to their specific KeyPass entry, and not inherit what "Test 1" has set?

Hello Chuck,

Based on what you described, I'd suggest using Specific Settings: https://docs.devolutions.net/rdm/windows/commands/edit/setting-overrides/specific-settings/

Zach,

After reading that doc, and playing around a bit with the "User Vault" settings, this has been resolved.

Thank you!
