Import encrypted RoyalTS document

Import encrypted RoyalTS document

Hello,

Is there a way to import encrypted RoyalTS documents to DVLS vaults?

When I try to import it via RDM I just get "Unable to load the session file", probably because of the encryption.

RDM version: 2023.2.14.0
DVLS version: 2023.3.4.0
RoyalTS version: 6.1.51028

Best regards,
Alex Petersen

Hello,

We noticed two things:

  • The first, your version of RDM (2023.2) and DVLS (2023.3) do not match. We highly recommend updating your RDM version to match the version of DVLS to avoid possible issues.
  • The second, we had a similar issue with the RoyalTS import that should be fixed starting with 2023.2.33.0

I would suggest updating to RDM 2023.3 and seeing if you still encounter this issue.

Hello Hubert,

Thanks for looking at this.

I've tried the process on a different RDM client shortly after I started this topic, it also fails on 2023.3.22.0 and 2023.3.25.0.

Thanks for the confirmation. We will keep our ticket opened and investigate. It's currently assigned to a developer.

Hi Hubert,

Just an update from me.

I've tried creating a brand new small document in RoyalTS and encrypted it, when importing it in RDM i get a prompt for the document password and it then imports the sessions succesfully.

But if I try to import any one of our three documents from our Royal Server, I don't get the promtp and just a 'Unable to load the session from file.'

Hello Alex,

Thank you for the additional information. I've forwarded this to our developer. I know we were able to reproduce internally, but we will double check that your scenario should also be supported by the fix we are planning.

Hello Hubert,

Any update on this?

This issue is what's blocking us upgrading from enterprise to platinum.

We're in the middle of a merger, one company is using RDM, the other RoyalTS, if we can't find a solution to this within a resonable timeframe, management wants us to go with RoyalTS :-(

Hello Alex,

This should be fixed in our current latest release, 2023.3.32.0. Could you update to this version and try it out?

Hi Hubert,

Thanks, I've updated RDM to 2023.3.32.0 and DVLS to 2023.3.10.0. I now get a password prompt, but when entering the password I just get the password prompt again and again. Even when entering the wrong password I get the password prompt again.

Hi Alex,
I'm currently overseeing the RoyalTS file importer, and Hubert has asked me to assist you directly for more efficient debugging and communication.
We typically encounter two main issues leading to the infinite password loop:

1. Incorrect Password Usage:
RoyalTS uses two different file formats with the '.rtsz' extension, depending on the document's configuration:

  • The first format is an XML file with encrypted passwords.
  • The second format, applied when a document's 'lockdown' option is activated, involves the password-encrypted XML file being zipped in a password-protected archive.

Please ensure you're using the lockdown password first, followed by the encryption password.

2. Decompression Errors:
These can be trickier to diagnose. RDM often prompts for the password again, assuming a decompression error is due to incorrect password entry. However, in rare cases, the issue might be an incompatibility with our importer or an error with the zip file itself. I can attempt to replicate the issue using the same RoyalTS version you're using. Alternatively, if all documents you're trying to import encounter this error, you could send me a non-sensitive dummy file for testing.

Please let me know if this information is helpful, or if you have any further questions.
Regards,

Jonathan Lafontaine
