My Apple Remote Desktop connection to my Mac used to work just fine, but recently there has been a change in behavior.
After successful connection if I attempt to click and drag something, the session disconnects and I have to authenticate back in with password or touching the fingerprint reader on the MacBook Air. This includes such things as: dragging a file or icon around the desktop, dragging a file to/from the Finder, or moving an element in a program. Clicking and moving window scrollbars or complete windows do not cause the problem.
If I anticipate needing to click and drag something I can move to the Mac and do it there, but when I return to my session in RDM the disconnect occurs anyway.
Again, this was not a problem previously and started recently so I suspect an update issue.
I am using the Free edition Version 2023.2.10.5, I have not yet attempted to roll back to previous versions.
Hello,
To gain a better understanding of the issue you're facing, could you please record a video demonstrating the problem? I will send you a private message with a link where you can securely upload the video.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
Best Regards,
Carl Marien
I'm having the same issue and suspect it is. bug in the latest release of RDM - I noticed it first as you mentioned, but now I see it where the MAC disconnects ND forces re-authentication almost every minute or two make thus unusable - i'm currently running 2023.2.32.0 64-bit
Additional info: Running 2023.2.10.4 on Macbook Air does not have the issue - I have to check if I have this download version and will re-install on PC to see if this is the issue - Scrolling with Logitech mouse scrolls etremely slow - I reported this and was told it is known issue
Hello king,
Big thanks for the recording you have created, I will send it to our developer right away.
Would it also be possible for you to create a portable installation of RDM and see if this issue still occurs? To do so, you will need to do the following:
1. Download the .zip file below: https://remotedesktopmanager.com/home/thankyou/rdmbin
2. Create a new folder on your Desktop.
3. Extract the content of the .zip file into the folder created at #2
4. Go to this folder once the .zip file has been extracted and run remotedesktopmanager64.exe
5. Connect to your data source.
This will tell us if the issue is tied to the local installation of RDM.
Thank you in advance for your help.
Best regards,
Carl Marien
Hello Awizrd,
Could you please specify if there is a particular action that triggers the issue you're experiencing, or does it occur randomly?
Regarding the slow scrolling issue on Mac, I want to confirm that we're aware of it. Our developers are actively working on a solution.
Best regard

Update: I am now using the version you had uploaded and running it now.....I'm happy to say that I am no longer getting the constant disconnection issiue. However, I am still experiening the issue that the OP lead with. If I simply attempt to select something on the desktop and drag and drop it, RDM will disconnect. Mouse issue is still happening
Hello
I'm able to reproduce the issue on my side. Can you let me know the version of macOS running on the remote systems you are connecting to? Is either of you able to confirm that this issue started after updating the server(s) to macOS 14 (Sonoma)?
Please let me know if you have any questions or if something isn't clear
Thanks and kind regards,
Richard Markievicz
It is indeed Sonoma that I am running now - I also updated the RDM to the latest which now has different advanced settings for ARD connection
Hello
Thanks for the information, it matches what we've seen internally. macOS Sonoma got a pretty big upgrade to screen sharing / Apple Remote Desktop for the first time in several years, and they've changed several things at the protocol level. Unfortunately neither their protocol or code is open, so the only way we can reimplement it is by studying their application(s) and their behaviour. It's quite tricky and labour intensive.
I believe we found the problem and I'm working on the fix now. I'll post an update once that's available.
Thank you for your patience
Kind regards,
Richard Markievicz
Hello, just to tell you I experienced the exact same (very annoying) problem. Thanks a lot in advance for fixing this and letting us know!
Best regards!
Hello
RDM 2023.3 is available and contains a fix for this specific issue. Please let us know if you still have a problem after updating, or if you have further questions or comments.

Thanks and kind regards,
Just updated and it has solved the slow mouse scrolling and the disconnections when dragging anything within MacOS. I was also experiencing disconnects every 30 secs to a min, so far I haven't experienced those disconnections.
Thanks for your hard work.

Hello, it works now, indeed, thanks a lot, you rock!
I, too, can confirm. All is right in the world :-)
Sxcrolling and drag-n-drop are good to go
Thank you
Thanks to you both for the positive feedback, I'm glad we were able to resolve this.

hello
just searched this topic me too.
could someone please confirm updating fixes problem?
i am reluctant update because rdm began to start up very slowly on my windows pc.
i am concerned update will make things worse.
sorry for off topic but is this possible to update only ard component?
how to start only ard without opening rbm?
Hello,
It is not possible to update only a specific component of the application.
If you are hesitant to update to the newest version, you could consider creating a portable version of Remote Desktop Manager (RDM) for testing purposes.
To install RDM portable, please follow these steps:
1. Download the .zip file using the following link: https://remotedesktopmanager.com/home/thankyou/rdmbin
2. Create a new folder on your Desktop.
3. Extract the contents of the .zip file into the folder created in step #2.
4. Go to this folder after extracting the .zip file and run 'remotedesktopmanager64.exe.'
5. Connect to your data source.
Best regards
