Hello,
I am a little confused about user groups and admins. It seems we cannot add "Administrator" users to groups, from what I understand (from searching and reading another thread) this is because admins can already access everything? So if that is the case though - why is there an "administrator" option to enable on the user group itself? And from the documentation it sounds like if we enable this option on a group, then every user we add to the group becomes an admin... meaning we now have admins in a group, which per the above was not supposed to be possible?
I'm not quite understanding how these two settings/concepts work together, can somebody please help clear this up?
Thanks!
David Willis
Hello,
That's right, as administrators already have access to everything, it is not possible to assign administrator accounts to any user groups.
The Administrator option on the user group's properties allows you to manage administrators from a group instead of individually granting administration privileges on each account.
Let us know if that helps to clarify this usage.

Hi Erica,
Thanks for the response. So if I am understanding correctly - the one and only scenario where Administrators can be members of a group would be in a group where the "administrator" option is checked, in which case every member becomes an admin? And if that were the case - we don't need to assign any permissions to that group, because as admins, the members would already have access to everything regardless?
Otherwise, for all other groups (without the "administrator" option checked) - only regular users can be members, and in these "non-admin groups", we can assign them permissions on things to restrict who can see what.
Is my understanding accurate?
Best regards.

Hi David,
That's right, members of an administrator group would have access to everything. There is no need to use that group in the permissions.
So yes, you understand this correctly.
Let us know if you have further questions about this.
