Resolved

Alt+Tab problem

avatar

Since few last versions (at least 3) of RDM for Windows, I am observing problems with keyboard after Alt+Tab:

  1. open SSH session
  2. write something - all ok
  3. Alt+Tab to other Windows window
  4. Alt+Tab back to RDM and SSH session
  5. type something - some shifting key is down, so the entered keys are garbled - that's the problem
  6. press Windows key twice (open and close Start menu)
  7. type something - everything is fine

I have Windows 10 on Dell laptop.
RDM is from zip file, sessions file taken from few versions back.

Already disabled all keyboard shortcuts but it does not help.

Where to look for the problem?

Hello PB,

Thank you for contacting us on that matter.

Could you tell me if this is what you get when switching?

I wasn't exactly checking the bad characters but seems like they are similar as yours.

But sometimes keyboard produce different results after Alt+Tab switching, I am mostly using Midnight Commander, so then I can't go thru files and folders with arrow keys.

The worst working keys then are not arrows or enter, but many other characters - letters or combination of shifting keys and a letter.

Any updates since the latest update from 26th September? In my case the issue still exists.

Hello,

I have the same issue when switching alt+tab or change windows focus.

As I said by PB, is extremely annoying.

After "sudo su -" I alt+tab and then cannot write.

Hello,

Could you be more specific with the expression sometimes?
Does this issue still occur once in a while every hour?

After how many Alt-Tabs does this issue occur?

Hi Patrick,

Was your question for me?
If yes, it depends .. Example: RDM vs. OneNote

Writing in Shell > Alt+Tab > OneNote > Code Snipped > Alt+Tab > Shell: writing or removing > special chars
Alt+Tab to OneNote > Closing OneNote > Alt+Tab back | this solved sometimes the issue for the ssh session

But this happens also with Notepad++ and VSC and sometimes

I observed that twice with new version, once garbled characters yesterday, today second time SSH server was getting garbled characters, but other SSH session was ok, however I wasn't able to reset the input to enter proper commands.

Hello PB,

Thank you for this feedback.

As Tobias mentioned, could you tell me if this issue occurs with Notepad++?

Best regards,

Patrick Ouimet

Seems like not, I am using Notepad++ but didn't the problem occured with it.

To address the keyboard issue in RDM for Windows after Alt+Tab, consider updating RDM to the latest version, checking keyboard language settings, reviewing shortcuts, verifying drivers, and examining session configurations.

Hello,

If this issue still occurs with the latest version.
Could you tell me if you are interested in doing a remote session to investigate this further?

Best regards,

Seems like with 2023.3.22.0 x64 problem does not exist, but not tested it much.

About remote session we have talked that for my company's computer this is impossible.
