Host-List

avatar

Hello, I want to make a host list in RDM, meaning that I can set "nickname for targets plus their IP, e.g.

PC1 IP
PC2 IP

Because I have many targets I only have an IP, the IP can change (DHCP), and they are not maintained in the DNS. So I would have only one place to maintain the relationshops between Namen and IP.

Is this possible?

Thanks in advance.

Hello Rainer,

Thank you for reaching out to us regarding this,

I have a few questions which you can hopefully answer.

  • Which version of RDM are you using?
  • Which type of data source are you using?

I would also like to confirm if in this case, the sessions would be using the same credentials or if each connection requires its own set of credentials?

Let me know,

Best regards,

Hello Samuel, the newest one (free version, have a subscription, but use the free version) and use XML as source.

Hello Rainer,

Thank you for your reply and for your patience,

I see, in that case, I'm wondering if using the "Alternate Host" option in your entry "Properties" may be helpful? You can find this under the "Description" section of the entry "Properties".

You can change this to "Prompt" and add multiple "Host" in this section, this would allow you to keep the same entry configuration while being able to select the correct Host for the connection when launching the entry.

Let me know if this helps,

Hello Sameul, I am looking fpr something like the host-File, so that I can use this in multiple entries, it should look like described:

PC-Name IP
PC-Name2 IP2

I have a couple of entries in which the target has a DHCP-adresse which can change. So it would like to a name which does not change. And I use a couple target in many entries (one time SSH, one time RDP). So I would have to change the IP only in one place.

I did change the local host file, this is a solution, but I would like to have this in RDM instead of the system.

Thanks in advance

Hello Rainer,

Thank you for your reply,

I see, would you be interested in a remote session so that we can discuss your case?

To do so, I would need to open a case for you regarding this, would the email used for your account be the correct one to use? If not, let me know, and I can send you a private message so that you can provide me with the correct email.

Let me know,

Best regards,

Hello Samuel, it is not so important, but thanks, will solve it with the local host file.
