Is it possible to substiture VMname with IP address in RDM without messing with hosts file?

AzureAD login requires VMMachine name using in RDP to be exact name of VM in Azure. Which forces modifications of hosts file to map VMname to public IP address. I'm hoping RDM has ability to have this setup without touching Windows hosts file somehow. Is it possible to do?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to us regarding this,

I have a few questions which you can hopefully answer.

  • Which version of RDM are you using?
  • Which type of data source are you using?

That being said, from my understanding, RDM would face the same limitations perhaps you could provide me some additional details on how you're connecting to this remote host currently?

Let me know,

Best regards,

Hello,

I'm using RDM 2023.1.23.0
I'm using RDP connection
To connect currently via below. As you can see I just put VM name which is mapped to public IP address via hosts file on my Windows machine. This is requirement if you want to use AzureAD based authentication. I want to do this VMName->IP address mapping inside RDM instead of hosts file if it's possible

Hello,

Thank you for your reply,

Unfortunately from my understanding, this is not something that can be done inside RDM,

I've reached out to our engineering department for confirmation and will keep you updated on this,

Let me know if you have further questions regarding this,

Best regards,

Samuel Dery
