Implemented

Documents in templates

avatar

Good day,
We wanted to integrate a document into a template. For this we used the object "Rich Text Editor", in which we saved an .rtf file. If we save this as a template and then use the template, we get an error message when opening the entry that the object could not be found in the database.
Would it be possible to fix this error or to enable the saving of documents in templates? I guess this error also occurs under Windows, so I'm posting it here in the forum.

Client Version: 2023.1.11.1
Server Version: 2023.1.3.0

Kind regards
Niklas

Hello again,

My report is now four months old. Is there an update on the problem in the meantime? Unfortunately, it still doesn't work.

Best regards

Hello Niklas,

The ticket has yet to be started. The issue is not technically easy to implement and goes much further than templates. For example, duplicating a document entry has the same issue. So there is no doubt that we need to solve this issue. I added notes and increased the priority of the issue in our internal issue tracking system.

Hello,

With our latest release, 2024.3, documents should now work much better with templates as well as with the duplicate action. I encourage you to try it and give us feedback if you find any issue or if it's lacking a functionality you'd like.

Hello,

Thank you very much for the feedback. I have just tried it and unfortunately the improvement doesn't seem to have had any effect on templates. The template still says that the attached document no longer exists.

Best regards

Hello,

A template made prior to 2024.3 may not have the necessary information contained within it. If you make a new template for your document in 2024.3, and then use it to create an entry, does it work for you? On my end I tested this scenario and it works well.

Hello,

I used the Document entry, made a template from it, then deleted the existing entry and then created a new one from the template. This then did not contain the corresponding file.
Am I not allowed to delete the original entry? If so, the function would not be useful for us, as we would have to edit the document again for each entry and therefore need a new individual one.

Niklas

What datasource are you using? Is it Devolutions Server, Hub, SQL Server, something else? I did the same steps as you and wasn't able to reproduce, but I was using SQL Server. Maybe it's a bug on a different datasource type.
Also just to confirm with you, are you on the latest 2024.3 release, 2024.3.15.0?

We are using the Devolutions Server on version 2024.3.4.0. And the client at 2024.3.5.1.

Hello,

I checked and we indeed don't have this supported yet in Devolutions Server and Hub. When you save your document you will notice it's not in "stored in database" mode, but instead in "link to file". This is why there's no document information in that template.

I will see if this is something we could add to a future roadmap. Sorry about the confusion.
