license issue using multiple accounts

license issue using multiple accounts

avatar

Hi, I have an issue using RDM since version upgrade to 2022.3.35. RDM ist installed on some servers and clients. We use mutiple accounts per user based on the task that is done. security guidelines prevent logon with "client admin" accounts on servers and "server admin" accounts can't logon to clients. So the option to run RDM as different user fails. This issue prevents the upgrade to all of our users.

Any help appreciated.

Hello Chris,

Thank you for reaching out to us. I would be happy to clarify the licensing model for RDM. Each license is assigned to a single named user. You are free to use this license on multiple machines, but please note that if multiple accounts are being used by a single user, a separate license will be required for each account.

For further assistance and to discuss possible options, feel free to contact our sales team at sales@devolutions.net. Alternatively, if you would like us to contact you, kindly let us know and we will be more than happy to reach out.

Best regards,

Dear Richard,

thank you for the fast reply. The RDM FAQ does state that is a user license for an individual not for an account. Maybe it should be updated. With current license registration we would need to double the licenses.

As you suggested I'll contact your sales team.

Hello Chris,

Are you referencing the first point on this FAQ page: https://devolutions.net/remote-desktop-manager/support/faq? If so, I understand your concern about the terminology, as it might be clearer to use "named user" instead of "user." I appreciate your feedback and will forward your suggestion to the appropriate team for review.

Dear Richard,

is there a possibility to manually logon within RDM itself instead of using the windows logon? Maybe i have missed an option, This would solve my problem.

Hello Chris,

You cannot change the AD user directly in RDM to connect to the data source if you are using Windows Authentication. You would instead need to use "Run as" to launch RDM, but it would still require a license for that user: https://docs.devolutions.net/kb/remote-desktop-manager/how-to-articles/run-as-another-user/
