Overview Thumbnails - doesn't work with ultravnc

avatar

Hi,
I noticed that, it is not possible to view the ultravnc sessions in the overview thumbnails tab. Why?
With freevnc i can see the session but it doesn't have configurable video settings to reduce bandwidth usage.
Can anyone help me?

Hello,
Unfortunately this is not possible to capture the content in UltraVNC. We don't have access to the image buffer like FreeVNC. Could you let us know what is missing in FreeVNC except the configurable video setting to make you switch?

ah ok!
i can use freevnc if it is possible to reduce video quality to reduce bandwidth consumption.
I have remote PCs with high latency and I need to reduce bandwidth.
in ultravnc i can change the video quality but not with freevnc

Hello,
I have forwarded the request to our main developer and I think it would be easier for us to add this feature than try to capture the UltraVNC output with some kind of hack.

Hello

Can you tell me exactly what configuration you use when connecting by UltraVNC (e.g. which options you set to control the bandwidth)? This will help to map the proper settings onto freevnc.

As one more question, what kind of connection / bandwidth do you have? For example, while we work on this you may be able to get some improvement with freevnc by preferring an alternate codec (Advanced > Encoding > Preferred Encoding). The default is usually Hextile but you should get better performance over the WAN using ZRLE.

Please let me know if you have some questions or something is not clear

Thanks and kind regards,

Hello again

Thanks for the feedback. This is something that has been requested a few times already this year. I'm going to increase the priority on the ticket and I'll post back once I have an update on this.

Thanks again, and please don't hesitate if you have further questions or comments

Kind regards,

Hello

RDM Windows 2023.1.15 is now available, and it should now be possible to set the colour depth of sessions using the embedded FreeVNC application.

Please don't hesitate to post back if you experience issues or have further questions or problems.

For further performance improvement over low-bandwidth connections, please check my earlier comment regarding changing the preferred encoding setting. In a future update we will try to clean up this option and make it more clear the benefits and disadvantages of the different codecs.

Thanks and kind regards,

Richard Markievicz
