Hi, i was looking around trying to find a switch for that in options, but with no luck.
Is it possible to setup RDM so it doesn't lock entire program once i want to edit an entry. It's really frustrating, especially if i want to copy details from within the session to properties of another session.
Also would it be possible to open properties tab for two items at the time?

Hello,
The properties of an entry is a modal window, so you cannot interact with the rest of RDM at the same time.
I have moved the thread to the Feature request section so the engineering team can have a look at your request.

Hi,
can you share an update to this or is the feature maybe in the planning already?
In the current state it's really annoying, for example if a Website (Session) wants you to change the password - You have to open the (in our case linked) Credential entry, generate a new password, copy it, click OK and paste it into the page. And if the website is not satisfied with it (wrong characters, too long, too short, bad hair day etc.), you have to go through this process again.
Best regards,
Christopher
Hello Christopher,
For now it's not possible, there are a lot of challenges that comes with allowing this, but it has been requested by our users for a long time and we know it would be a great improvement. We are slowly working on this over time as it requires a lot of restructuring of how RDM works internally.

Dear Devolutions team,
We use RDM intensive and would like to have the same function for non-modal windows to edit properties like password lists. This is really a handicap, because data exchange is quite laborious. Would be nice, to have non modal windows overall, in tabs. Thank you developers! Regards, SV
Hello,
It's one my long term goal. I started to rework the internal architecture for that. I hope to have something in the middle of next year. We still have some details to iron out.

Hello David,
we are also heavy RDM users. It is very frustrating that modal windows block the rest of all other windows launched by RDM. In the past we used external commands to open RDP, Putty, .... and everything worked smoothly. But now, after I migrated all entries to the native RDM tools, we have these problems. I don't want to go back to the external commands, but all my colleagues are not happy with this situation!
When can we expect a change to the RDM design?

René
Hi René,
We’re so close to being able to enable non-modal edit/add dialogs in RDM. We’ve been changing a lot under the hood over the last few years to make this kind of thing possible.
At this point, we might even be able to add a “hidden” option to turn it on. I say “hidden” because it’ll need more testing before we can fully release it. We just rolled out 2025.3, and it supports edits in the favorites view regardless of the active vault. It’s a small step toward supporting things like this.
I’m thinking a small side project to enable this could be doable. Can’t promise anything yet, but I’ll definitely take a look.
Are you only looking for add/edit of entries, or for other modal forms/windows as well?
Best regards,
Stéfane
