"Corrupted" Folder when trying to import CSV

"Corrupted" Folder when trying to import CSV

Hello,

I was trying to import sessions via a CSV. For context we have a excel file that contains all the informations to connect to different servers.
I'm using a script that goes through the table and generate folders for each server and sessions inside that server Folder that suit the type of server. Then each server folder is sorted inside another folder that correspond to the site it's located in.

To achieve this I've been pocking around with a test CSV file to check how RDM handles Folders and sessions.
I use custom templates for folders and sessions to sort them with explicit visuals to tell them apart.
While trying to import a very simple structure inside a test folder in my local data source for testing, I've noticed that RDM does not "care" for the folders I put inside the CSV, it creates a folder based on the "group" of the sub-sessions inside the folder, not the folder I've put. So it does not use my custom template with hostnames and credentials and uses a basic folder that is "empty".

The structure I have is the following when I am importing inside TEST :
TEST
Server
Session 1
Session 2

The problem is that my custom template folder exists but is "invisible" of sort. If I try to remove the "Server" folder, it tells me that this will remove 2 sessions and 1 folder inside the erased folder !
Later I tried to remove my TEST folder to recreate it but the custom template "Server" Folder appeared in it's place and it got stuck, When I tried to remove it it told me :

Do you really want to deleted the group 'TEST' ?
This folder contains: 1 folder.

But there is only the Custom Template "Server" folder that I was trying to delete instead of the "TEST" Folder ? It's weird.
After trying to erase it a couple times it finally disappeared.
I think what happenned is the RDM does not show multiple folders that have the same name at the same part of a tree, so the other ones are invisible. This means I can't import my folder structure using a CSV file because the "wrong" automatic server folder generated from group names by RDM replaces the custom one of the CSV.

I've added the CSV file and the RDM file I get when exporting the data source after I reproduced it here.

TLDR;
When importing Sessions CSV with folders, RDM do not use the custom ones in the CSV and automatically creates one from the "Group" of the sessions that are supposed to be inside the folder. This creates duplicates of the folders at the same spot and only one of them is visible at the same time.

Thanks for your help

I also noticed that I cannot import "sub-sessions" of a session (but I can create them in RDM), it puts all the sub-sessions at the same level than the parent session.
Exporting a complete Data Source to CSV and then reimporting it leads to the same result

Just noticed I've used my personal account to post and my pro account to respond. I'm the same guy sorry ...

Hello,

Thank you for contacting us on that matter!

It appears you are having some issues with virtual folders. Could you verify if they are allowed under Administration > System Settings - Allow virstual folders? Does the top level folder you import into already exists?

I imported your .rdm file and I did not have any issues deleting the folder after, it was gone right away.

Hello,

It seems that I don't have the same options as you. My "Administration" panel contains only "Vault Settings", is this specific to the Team version ?

Also I've changed how I handle groups of folders and it seems to be better for bigger imports.
There is still some folders that are left when I try to remove a folder but it is manageable.

Thanks for your help.

Hello,

Glad it sems to be working better now.

What type of data source are you using? I used a SQL Server data source when I performed the test. If you are using a personal data source, XML for example, you would only have Reports and Vault Settings as options under Administration.
