Embedded VNC and multiple Linux (X) desktops

Embedded VNC and multiple Linux (X) desktops

avatar

I use VNC to access RHEL machines, but I don't connect to the console VNC session, I connect to desktop 1 instead of 0.

So, with RealVNC, UltraVNC, etc., I use (for example) 192.168.0.1:1 to connect.

When I try this with embedded VNC, it does not connect. Is there any way I can specify which desktop to connect to with embedded? Even if not in the GUI, if I can do it in the database somewhere....

I'm using RDM enterprise 5.6.3.0. I tried the latest Beta but it was not stable for me so I reverted back to this release.

Hi,
Unfortunately the component that I use for embedded does not allow this. I will add this feature as soon as it's available in the VNC component.

Sorry about that

Disappointing but understandable. I'll just need to make sure that UltraVNC is installed for my remote users.

I wish that password storage for RealVNC would be available since that's what my remote users already have (and it seems to run smoother with our servers), but its not a big deal. Not even a big enough deal for me to post it in the feature request section :)

Hi,
For RealVNC, you should post a feature request directly to the RealVNC company (http://www.realvnc.com/). RDM does not support it because it's not available in command line. It's only supported by UltraVNC.

I wish it was here, maybe eventually.

I didn't look into it but I did think it would be the lack of command prompt option. The only workaround to that I could think of would be to make a .vnc file on the fly, use it to connect, then (hopefully) remove the file afterwards. Hardly worth the effort when there are alternatives.
