default edge web session settings

default edge web session settings

Can you please expand the web session defaults, especially for edge sessions, somewhat? we can set private session and smartscreen behaviour but I usually want to set "ignore certificate errrors" as well. To put it another way, this is the view, when you select the "default browser" edge

and this is the view when I explicitely select edge (although it's the default browser):

I think these two views should be identical or at least have the same options.

Hello,

The issue is that the default value, in your case Edge, is defined locally in File > Options > Types > Website. Yes, by default the value is Edge, but for two different machines, the default browser could be different and the supported values wouldn't be the same.

The only way to support this I can think of would require a rework of the UI for website. When in default mode, show every possible option. The issue then becomes how to make clear which options are expected to work with what browsers.

I think it's not so complicated. just don't show the "default browser" form but always the form of the actual browser with the current values in use, here: edge. (but it may be, I overlook some complexity behind the scenes..)

Hello,

Currently, we don't save settings that aren't appropriate for the currently configured values. That means if we show the information for your default browser, Edge, you would configure it and that would save properly. But then if someone else with a different default browser like Chrome edits the entry, it would only save the values that are supported with Chrome, and thus risk resetting the configuration you first made when configuring using Edge.

The reason we do this is to avoid keeping unneeded data in the entry, both to prevent unexpected behaviors and to reduce the size of entries. That's why I feel if we want to support this, we need a different solution than only showing the information that applies to the locally configured default.

Maybe as a workaround, if you always want to create Website entries with Edge selected, you could use the "local default settings". This feature allows you to set default values that will be used when creating new entries. This can be found in File > Templates > Local Default Settings. Then simply find the entry type you want to configure a default for.

ok, now I got it.

But the solution with the default template works perfectly in my use case!

Glad to hear this works for you!
We're always looking to improve our products so we appreciate your feedback. Maybe in the future these limitations in how we save settings in the entry will not be the same and we will be able to better support this.
