Tags search - order matter?

avatar

Hello

One of our users reported that when a entry has two tags, and you search for it (include tags enabled) you can find the entry when you search on of the tags.
When you use both tags to search for an entry, the order of the tags have to correspond to the order that the tags were assigned to the entry.

Is this behavior expected?
It is present on Linux as well as on Windows.

With kind regards,
Nick

P.S. I've also made a post on the Linux forum.

Hello,

Which version of RDM are you using ?

I'd also like to know your data source type ?

Best Regards,

Hello

My apologies for the late response. It was an extended weekend.

We are running on both Linux & Windows the most recent versions (respectively 2022.3.0.6 & 2022.3.24.0).

The data source is a MS SQL server.

Nick

Hello,

When using the advanced search option, have you tried clicking the ellipsis (three dots) and searching for the entries this way ? This will allow you to search for an entry with multiple tags.

Hello

I just tried it, same result. The order matters.

Hello nick, I am able to reproduce your issue, It's very odd indeed.

I will investigate further to see why it's doing this.

Hello,

To address this issue we've changed how keywords are handled in the filters. By default, a keyword search will now provide all entries that have at least 1 tag matching from the filter. However, the filter at the bottom of the navigation pane can support boolean operators (like the advanced search), you could isolate entries with multiple keywords by using the operator "and" (&&). Here are some examples for clarity:

By typing

  • new test obsolete

You would get all entries that have at least one of those 3 keywords.

By typing

  • new && test && obsolete

You would only get entries that have all 3 keywords

These changes should be available with the upcoming version, 2022.3.27

Hello

We've noticed that when using the search, the results are sometimes a bit strange...

We noticed that when we are searching on the keyword "rad" for example to find all radius servers, that servers with the tag "AD" are also matched.
Is that to be expected? Previously, this didn't happen.

It's not really convenient that this happens now.

With kind regards,
Nick

Hello Nick,

As per the tests I have made on my end, this is expected. If you would like to exclude your tags from the results of your search, you can click on the ellipsis button found next to the search field and go under "Fields Options" to uncheck "Include Tags":

You can also enable the "Case Sensitive" option found under the "Search Options" section to avoid getting this match:

Hello James

We found it strange since it was not really a match ("AD" doesn't contain "rad") and before the update to fix the order matter, this was not present.

After some tweaking, I managed to have better results, but the strange thing is, when searching for a entry with the name containing "xyzabc1-rad" for example, via that exact string, it will find that server but will also show all entries with the tag "AD".

We can not see why these systems would be matched, since there is nothing to match them with.

I hope this explanation was somewhat understandable.

I wish you a great weekend in the mean time.

Nick

Hello

We are running it now for a while, and it seems better.
Most of my colleagues are now in Holiday, so potentially when everyone is back in the office some issues might surface.

The best wishes for the new year!

With kind regards,
Nick

Hello Nick,

Great, glad to hear it seems to be fixed. Let us know once your colleagues have been able to test it out, and if they run into any issues.

Happy New Year as well!
