Is it possible to return the WebDAV?

Is it possible to return the WebDAV?

avatar

Hello! I found that in the most recent versions of the program is missing a data source like WebDAV. And I put the flag "show obsolete data sources". Also tried to find this source in the list of plugins, but still did not find such a data source. I am very comfortable with this data source for home use. Is there any way to transfer it from past versions of the program to the latest version? For example, copy some files or dll-libraries?

Hello,

Thank you for contacting us on that matter!

Unfortunately, as you mentioned, this type of data source is no longer supported on the more recent versions of RDM. The best alternative to the current version would be to move to the Devolutions Password Hub solution. For more information, please consult this link: https://devolutions.net/password-hub/personal

To create this type of data source, please refer to this link: https://helphub.devolutions.net/hub_password_hub_personal.html

Sorry, I do not understand, so Password Hub - this is another program, I used RDM as a program to organize my database of remote access sessions to some computers, so that you can immediately connect, for example through Radmin or Anydesk to another computer, but not as a database of passwords.

My apologies for the confusion, the Hub Personal can be used as a data source in RDM and will act in a similar manner to what you were used to with the WebDav data source. All of your entries can be easily imported into it by following the steps listed here https://kb.devolutions.net/how-to-import-and-export-entri.html

Let me know if you have more questions about this solution or if you require further assistance.

Thanks for the answer, now it is clearer, but I wanted to clarify another point. The thing is that I particularly liked the webdav because the database file RDM itself was located on my Synology NAS, which has a domain and a public static IP and using webdav just connect to this session database file from anywhere.
Hub Personal is a cloud solution, right? So the database file would be on your servers?
I would like to place the database file on my personal NAS.

You are more than welcome! You are correct.

In that case, I would recommend creating an XML data source and storing the "Connections.xml" on your Network.

Yes, I know about the XML file. But your way is only possible within the local network, and I would like to have access also via the Internet, also your way does not imply any encrypted connection.
Whereas WebDav provided connection via single web address from LAN as well as from Internet, supported SSL encryption and was very easy to configure. So for personal use I liked it very much.
And so I'm trying to figure out what is possible instead of Webdav, then also to have the database file on my NAS and the possibility of a single encrypted connection via a web address from both the local network and the Internet?

Unfortunately, there is no other alternative I can think of other than using a version of RDM where the WebDAV data source is supported.
Since this data source has been removed in 2022.3.14.0, you would need to revert to 2022.2.29.0.

This version of RDM can be downloaded here: https://cdn.devolutions.net/download/Setup.RemoteDesktopManager.2022.2.29.0.exe

I'm sorry, could you explain it to me again? It's just that you have a system of plugins supported in RDM, when you can, for example, add support for remote connection through, for example, Radmin, Anydesk or here recently still saw Rustdesk, simply by downloading a plugin and it is essentially (as I understand) did not depend on the version of RDM. And the data sources are tightly built into the application and can not be changed by plugins?

These plugins do depend on the version of RDM as well since improvements or fixes can be made to them as changes to each of these products are made by their developers.

That being said, the data sources are indeed tightly built into the application and cannot be brought back that way.

OK, I see, in general the problem was solved as follows. Connected the NAS WebDAV through windows explorer (SSL connection) and then selected the XML-personal option, placed the XML file with the database on the NAS and in the RDM XML data source settings specified the location of the XML file on the NAS. It turns out that it worked almost the same way when WebDAV worked directly through RDM, i.e. both the connection is encrypted and available both locally and over the Internet.
But I wish the developer to return WebDAV in RDM, because it is very convenient and easy way to configure it for home use, when you don't want to place database file on external resources and you have NAS and want to have access to the database not only from home. After all, nothing prevents you from also leaving some warning that it is not the most reliable source of data and so on, but usually for home use this is enough.

Hello,

Thank you for providing the workaround you have found to our community. As for your feedback, I will share it with our developers.
