We're still on version 2022.2. In this version the Password Generator has a Mode named Strong Password. This mode generates passwords containing 8 characters including letters (lower and uppercase), numbers and special characters.
Is this still considered strong or should this be updated (if it hasn't already in 2022.3, couldn't verify this in release notes)?
RDM itself considers the quality of the Strong Passwords "Good" (orange). When I generate a password in the Advanced Settings Mode with 9 characters including only letters (lower and uppercase) and numbers it's considered "Strong" (green) and generating a 11 character password the same way results in a "Very Strong" (dark green) password.
Is this already updated in 2022.3? If not I guess it needs an update right?
Hello,
This certainly seems odd, however I can also see how it might believe the 2 other passwords are stronger considering there are more characters.
I will contact one of our engineers to see how this can be improved.
Best regards,
Zachary,
True, the 2 other passwords are considered stronger because they contain more characters. However I would expect that the Strong Password Mode would also generate passwords that RDM at least considers Strong (minimum 9 characters).
But the question is also, is a 9 character password only consisting of letters (upper and lower) and numbers still considered strong in these times? Microsoft for example considers a strong password to consist of at least 12 characters including uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols (Create and use strong passwords - Microsoft Support).
Hello,
You raise a good point and I've informed our engineering department of this. I've also opened an internal ticket regarding this.
I will update you once I receive word.
Best Regards,
