RDM Agent can't start RDM on Jump Host after upgrade to latest version

Hi!
My colleague tried to update the RDM installed on our jump host, but since you changed the folder name an name of the executable file recently, the agent seems not to be able to find and start it now. Are there any changes to the agent needed?

Please perform the following steps/investigation.

  • Connect with RDM via RDP to the jump host, right-click on the tab, Agent Status, what do you see?
    • you should see Agent connected (green check mark)
    • If RDM is already running on the jump host, you should see the same. I would suspect that this is not the case. No worries this is normal unless you have RDM auto-start on session start configured on the jump host (unlikely).

  • On the jump host, open RegEdit, validate that the path & exe name is correct here:
    • Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\rdm\shell\open\command
    • For example: C:\Program Files\Devolutions\Remote Desktop Manager\RemoteDesktopManager.exe "%1"

Ok I think I know what is going on.

RDM Agent is configured to look first in the install directory then the .rdmj file association. When you install both RDM and RDM Agent and run the RDM Agent from the install it will not find the RDM.exe in the same directory so it must use the .rdmj file association. Which, in this case, looks like the new RDM install might remove the association (I still need to validate this). But this workaround should work.

  • Right-click on RDM Agent and uncheck Auto Start
  • Close RDM Agent
  • Go to the RDM install directory
  • Start RDMAgent.exe
    • If you prompted to "Auto Start" click yes
  • If this works you can uninstall the RDM Agent since you are now running with the RDM Agent distribute with full RDM install
    • People use the RDM Agent standalone in instances where they don't require/want the full RDM install
