Longer running continuous pings (Continuous Ping) make the whole system slow down

avatar

If you ping any system with right click -> Session script tools -> Continuous ping for more than 5-10 minutes at a time, the whole system becomes slow. Inputs even in other programs hang then. Hello,

Thank you for reporting this issue.

To being able to replicate it, what Remote Desktop Manager version are you using?

What Windows version are you using?

Best regards,

I'm using the current Remote Desktop Manager Version 2022.3.23.0 64-Bit with Windows 10 21H2 19044.2251.

I myself suspect that the long text in this scrolled text box takes a long time to render the longer the text in it gets. That's why with the duration of the continuous ping it gets worse and worse.

Hello,

Thank you for your feedback.

I'm unable to reproduce that issue locally. I will ask our QA team to have a deeper look on those tests.

Is there any problems for you to limit the number of displayed lines in the Continuous ping window? We could reduce that number and see if that helps.

Let me know what you think about that suggestion.

It's a pity that you can't recreate this problem. My friends who use Remote Desktop Manager have also noticed the problem.

But yes: it would be very nice if you would limit the number of lines to e.g. 2000.

Hello,

Thank you for your feedback.

As mentioned, our QA team will try to reproduce this issue. The VM I have used for the tests was already to slow to notice any differences at the start of the Continuous ping or after 10 minutes.

I have submitted an improvement ticket to our engineering team to set a limit of lines in the Continuous ping tab. Once an update will be available, we will post it here.

Hello,

We've added a limit to the pings displayed (of 2000), this change should take effect next version (2022.3.24), and will hopefully fix the issues you've been experiencing.

Thank you for the customization. I'm always really happy when you customize things like this so quickly.

As feedback I have to say that the effect is still noticeable but not as bad.

Hello,

We've noticed that the impact was still substantial in some cases, so we've lowered the number down to 1000, hopefully this will provide the desired behavior performance-wise. This should be available for the next released version. Should this still be a problem, feel free to contact us again on this post and we'll try to work something out.

For me, this customization fixed the problem. Thank you very much.

Hello,

Thank you for your feedback. That's a good news the fix of lowering the line numbers to 1000 has helped.
