Search text in embedded Web Browser sessions?

Is it possible to search text on websites in embedded web browser sessions?

At least CTRL + F / Command + F doesn't work on RDM Mac...

Hi simonschuermann,

Good question. I actually do not thing this is possible yet. I've made a quick search and we will have to implement it ourselves (at least the search bar part). I'm opening a ticket and we will get back in touch when it is done.

Happy new year. Just wan't to ask for a follow up. Do you think such feature will be available until mid of the year?

Hi,

I can't say for sure, but I will add it to the roadmap for the 2023.1 release.

Hi simon,

As of RDM Mac 2022.3.19.0, the search bar should now be available in Website entries. Do tell us if you encounter any issues.

Hi Xavier

It looks like the search feature has some problems related to some types of web content:

This sample searching on the webconsole of Citrix ADC Netscaler Appliances does not find text: It will do if I have something in a textbox on the website it self but not anything else:

Hitting next button will not jump to next search pattern.

Hi simonschuermann,

Unfortunately, I don't think there is much we can do. We simply use the method exposed by WebKit (see here). If some element in the web page are not found, this is an issue with the website with the WebKit webview.

Hi Xavier

Interesting, just checked with the Safari. I think it uses WebKit too, but not sure. There it works.

I hope somwhen this WebKit will be improved :-( Unfortunately quite annoying.

Safari does indeed uses WebKit although, they might have a bit more control on the underlying component itself. That being said, I'll open a ticket for investigation. If we get the time, we might be able to get in touch with the WebKit team to see if they can provide more information.
