RDM still indicating an open Remote Desktop session, after logging off the remote server

avatar

When I connect to and log in to a remote server in our office using RDM, the UI shows the open session as green arrow, indicating the open session. When I sign off the remote server, the green arrow persists, as if I still have an open session on the server. I would expect the green icon to flip back to the normal blue icon, indicating the session has been closed.

Having the icon still show as green (session open) is misleading, and I then have to manually close the session in RDM. Surely, when I log the session off, the green icon should revert to the normal blue automatically? Am I missing something about the behaviour of the UI? My attached screenshot shows what I mean. I logged off the server and it still shows a session open (ie. the green arrow).

Hello,

Thank you for contacting us on that matter!

Indeed, RDM should normally be able to automatically flag the session as closed when it is stopped, you shouldn't need to manually click the Close button for it to be flagged as not running. Allow me to ask you a few questions regarding your RDM environment and this behavior.

  • What version of RDM do you currently use?
  • What type of data source do you use?
  • Does this behavior affect all of your session entries?
  • If you use RDM with other users, do these users also experience this behavior?

Best regards,

Hello,

Thank you for your response!

I would be curious to verify if the issue is tied to your current installation of RDM, or if it affects wider than that, by verifying if the issue occurs on a new portable instance of RDM.

Here are the steps to create a portable instance of RDM :
1. Download the RDM zip folder from the link below :
https://remotedesktopmanager.com/home/thankyou/rdmbin
2. Extract this zip in an empty folder of your choice
3. Launch RemoteDesktopManager64.exe from this folder
4. Register your license
5. Establish your data source connection under File > Data Sources

Let us know how that goes!

Best regards,

I will do that in the morning, and get back to you. To clarify though, you want me to make a new local data source or use the existing one?

Hello,

Thank you for your response!

Actually, I would be interested to verify with both, to see first if the issue occurs with the new data source and then see if it also occurs with the older one. This will allow us to determine if the issue somehow stems from the data source itself.

Best regards,
