Custom permission on entry of an inherited permissions folder

Custom permission on entry of an inherited permissions folder

avatar

Hello

I found an issue in the latest version of RDM (2022.2.24.0).

We have a folder with limited access. Only certain groups of users are allowed full access, other can only see that these entries exist.

Today, We wanted to grant a certain usergroup "view password" permission to the entry, but when doing so with the latest version of RDM, the permission wasn't applied. When using an older version, it worked.

The entry in question inherited the permissions from the folder where it was located, that folder inherited it from the parent folder.

Are there any other reports regarding this behavior?

With kind regards,
Nick

Hello,

Thank you for contacting us on that matter!

I would like to verify first if the following options under Administration > System SettingsPassword Policy are activated?

If they are not enabled, does enabling them solve the issue, or do users remain unable to reveal passwords?

Best regards,

Hello Gabriel

Thank you for your response and my apologies for the late response. I was not in office yesterday.

It is enabled.

Hello,

Thank you for your response.

In that case, allow me to ask you some additional questions.

  • What type of data source do you use?
  • If you grant the custom permission to one of the users in the group, are they then able to view passwords?
  • Would it be possible to provide us a screenshot of the permission you applied on the folder, as well as a screenshot of the permissions in one of the child entries?

Best regards,

Hello Gabriel

I hope you had a great weekend.

  • Our data source is an MS SQL database.
  • If I set the permission to a user itself, it works as expected.
  • I've send you the screenshots via a direct message.

With kind regards,
Nick

Hello,

Thank you for the screenshots!

As a follow-up, I would like to ask you a couple of additional questions.

  • In what older version of RDM does the View Password permission still work as expected?
  • Under Administration > System Settings > Security Settings, is the option "Use legacy security" enabled?
  • Is Service Center the only user group affected by this issue?
  • Could you please look under File > My Data Source Information and give me your database version? It should be displayed on the third line, "Database".

Best regards,

Hello

My colleague that has also the permissions and managed to push the adjustment is running 2022.2.21.0.

The "Use legacy security" is not enabled.

So far, we only had this issue with the specific entry mentioned with the Service Center group. We did not test other groups.

The database version is v1.782.

Hello,

Thank you for your response!

Would you be interested in organizing a remote session with me so I can look into this and see if I can find the source of this issue with you? I feel it might be easier to investigate in real time with a screenshare.

If you are interested, please let me know, and send my by private message the email address we can use to contact you, as we will need to open a ticket to organize the remote session.

Best regards,
