how to select for copy text in external application like cmd.exe
I cannot select text into command line (external application) sessions (like cmd.exe)
What is solution for this ?
Thx
ok, i found what was wrong.
If the launch a cmd session alone, it works but if I launch another terminal type session: powshell, ssh then it becomes impossible to make a selection with the mouse in the cmd.exe session
There must be a problem with the template or something, but I couldn't find how to fix it.
Is it a bug?
Hello,
Just so I understand, what you're saying is that you're unable to add a selection from your cmd session when another terminal session is open ?
Best Regards,
No.
If I log in cmd.exe alone. I can copy paste on the current .cmd.exe session. if I open an ssh session and return to my cmd session.exe. copy paste no longer works: unable to make a selection via the mouse
to open a cmd.exe session, I use the template "command line (external application) session"
Same problem with powershell session
Hello,
Could you please confirm what version of RDM you have and if you are using the free or Enterprise version.
I just tested it on my end, and I can only select text in the CMD if it is set to external; if it is set to embedded, I cannot select any text, even if it is the only entry currently opened. When set to external, the text can be selected/copied even if a PowerShell session is opened (external or embedded).
Would it be possible to export the cmd entry so we can see what settings you configured? Simply right click on the Entry > Export > "Export Selection (.rdm)..." Just make sure there is no private information, and you can either attach it to your post or send it here: https://devolutions.sharefile.com/share/filedrop

Hi, sorry for the delay
Yes my display is Embedded.
The problem is the same with a cmd.exe or pwsh.exe shell ("C:\Program Files\PowerShell\7\pwsh.exe" -noexit)
Once the session is launched, it is not possible to make a text selection with the mouse on the console
Do you have the same problem ?
Hello,
Could you try to use a PowerShell entry instead, it works on my end to cxopy text from it when embeeded. You can call cmd.exe from it:

OK,
If I run powershell terminal alone. In this case, it actually works. But if I start a second session like an ssh or rdp session for example. Once the second ssh or rdp session is launched, when I return to the powershell session, character selection via the mouse no longer works...
The problem is the same with a cmd.exe session
try you will see
Hello,
You are correct, as soon as another entry is opened, the text selection is not available, but it we close the other session(s), the text selection starts working again.
I will open an internal ticket to the engineering team so they can have a look.
Best regards,
Richard Boisvert
Thank you for that
Hello,
We are still investigating this issue, but for now we have found a workaround. If you find yourself unable to select the text in a PowerShell or Command Line (External Application), you can simply click the windows task bar at the bottom (the point is for RDM to lose focus), and once you return to RDM, you should be able to select the text in the embedded windows. We are trying to find a fix for this issue, but in the mean time this should help you achieve your objective.
