I would find it handy to change the Sort priority of an entry in Navigation window using a keyboard shortcut.
Perhaps something like-
Select an entry in the Navigation window
Ctrl+Alt+Up Arrow - increase Sort Priority by 1
Ctrll+Alt+Down Arrow - decrease Sort Priority by 1
Ctrl+Alt+Page Up - increase Sort Priority by 10
Ctrl+Alt+Page Down - decrease Sort Priority by 10
I think that would be much easier than Properties -> User Interface -> Sort Priority
Hello,
Thank you for the request. Would it work for you to instead have a shortcut to prompt for only the sort priority choice, enter a number, and save it? My concern with your suggestion is that every time you would press the shortcut, it would send a save action to the database. If you want to increase the sort priority by let's say 7, you would need to press the shortcut 7 times, and thus save the entry 7 times. For local databases it's not a big concern, but if you're connecting to let's say Password Hub or a Devolutions Server, it might be very long to do it this way due to the multiple calls.
Let me know what you think.

I hadn't thought about the overhead that would get generated with repeated updates to Password Hub or Devolutions Server.
Is it possible to enable that functionality only if a local database is used? Or, alternatively, have some sort of 'Sort Priority' mode that suspends database updates until some even occurs. Possibly when the Navigation panel loses focus? If any changes have been made in the panel, send the database update then?

It might be complicated with how RDM is structured internally to achieve this. For now what I can offer is adding a shortcut to prompt only for the sort priority. The workflow would be:
Select an entry > Press shortcut key > It opens a simple window where you can choose the sort priority for this entry > enter the desired value and save > the tree refreshes with the new sort priority taken into account.
Let me know if that would work for you or if this compromise wouldn't improve your workflow enough.

Yes, that feature would be helpful.
Thanks for the explanation.

I've opened a ticket for this feature, thanks for the confirmation Randy. We will post back in this thread once it is done, I think we should be able to squeeze it in for RDM 2022.3.

Hello,
We've added a shortcut option (in Files - Options - User Interface - Keyboard, under the Edit section, named Change Sort Priority). With this keyboard shortcut, you will have access to a quick way to change the sort priority of selected entries. This should be available for 2022.3.6
