Cross Platform

Is there the ability to have cross platform variables? eg %USER% maps to c:\usersusername on Windows, and /Users/username on macOS / /home/username on Linux. I work across both macOS and Windows devices, with SSH Logging enabled. Currently I set custom variables on the application install, however it would be handy to be able to set the variable on the vault, so that if/when I reinstall I do not have to remember to setup the variables again.

Similar to above, working across multiple platforms, it owuld be handy to support more 3rd parts FTP/SCP apps such as CyberDuck. This would reduce my need to have multiple SCP entries, 1 for Win, 1 for macOS. I know Filezilla is available however I am not a huge fan of that.

Hello,

What version of RDM are you using? You should already have the possibility to add variables on three different levels:

  • At the local options level (File > Options > Application > Custom Variables)
  • At the vault level (select the root of your vault, then Properties, you should see a Variables tab)
  • At the System Settings level (Administration > System Settings > Custom Variables)

Let me know if having the ability to modify variables at these levels is enough for you or if it's missing something to work in your scenario.

As for integrating different third party applications for FTP and SCP, we could take a look at CyberDuck. At the moment, we encourage you to try our native FTP and SCP types, as they should work in a similar way no matter if you're using RDM on Windows or Mac for example.

Hi Hubert

Thanks for your response. Yep I am aware of the variables and where they can be created. What I meant was it would be good to have a default variable in RDM, eg $HOME$ that points to /User/uername on macOS, andc:\users\username on Windows. Currently I just create a local variable on each system I install RDM on.

This way I could have entries that reference the one variable that work cross platform.

Hello,

I understand, thank you for the explanation. I will open a ticket to add this kind of feature to RDM. We will post back in this thread once it's been implemented.
