RDM 2022.2.17.0 - Credentials not automatically filled in anymore on some installations
Hi There,
Recently updated the software in our control room to the latest version 2022.2.17.0 and two out of 10 installations fail in auto filling the credentials for websites.
What I've tried:
- Reboot PC
- Delete cache
- Log in as different user
- Delete RDM and all stale data (%localappdata%, program files, etc.), reinstall connect to SQL instance
All the above steps didn't solve this issue.
Is there anything else I can try?
Thanks in advance,
Greetings,
Rick
Edit:
Also adding the bar seen below and manually pressing on the autofill button, it doesn't fill in the credentials.
Edit2:
Also in stead of using the credentials in the item itself but referring to vault credentials doesn't work.
Hello,
Thank you for contacting the Devolutions service desk!
I would first recommend trying the two methods described in the following help topic. They will help RDM identify in which fields it should autofill the credentials. If the first method does not yield better results, make sure to try the second one as well, it's a bit more involved but is usually also more reliable.
https://kb.devolutions.net/rdm_web_browser_web_authentication.html
Let me know how that goes!

Hello Gabriel,
Thanks for your reply.
I am aware how to configure web browsers. We have been using RDM (happily) for years and have indeed a mixture between method 1 and 2.
As stated in OP two out of ten installations do not auto fill credentials anymore on web links. I can't figure out what the issue is.
RDP connections go fine using the username/password in the item.
If I need to provide log files let me know. I haven't touched one installation with the same issues.
Greetings,
Rick
Hello,
Thank you for your response!
In that case, I would like to verify if any of the websites affected by this issue are public? If so, I would appreciate if you could share the URL to it so that I can test on my side and see if I can get the autofill to work on it.
Best regards,
Gabriel Degrandpré
Note that it will probably work as we have 8 installations where it does work, but just the two where it doesn't auto fill anymore.
But here are some URLs:

https://groeneweg.ipcontrol.nl/

Hello,
Thank you for your response! I will look into those websites and see what I can find! I will get back to you as soon as I have new information to share!

Hello,
Unfortunately, I have not been able to replicate the issue you describe. Once I entered the ID for the username and password fields in the entries the autofill started working as expected. I did have to fill the Username ID and Password ID fields manually, so if you were only using the Automatic or Discover buttons, it might be why we are getting different results.
I did notice that some of the sites take longer to load than others. For those, it might be worth configuring the "Autofill delay" under the Login tab of the website entries' properties. That would give RDM some more time to load the web page before the autofill starts.
I have included my test entries in the RDM file attached to this message. I'd be curious to know if they yield better results for you than your current entries if you import them in your vault.

EmbeddedWebFillTest.rdm
I imported the sessions and on local machine and other machines it worked fine as expected.
However on the specific two machines with the problems it unfortunately didn't fill in.
Could this be a local setting in RDM or Windows? I've tried looking in RDM settings but couldn't find anything relating to this behaviour.
Hello,
I can't think of any local settings that could be preventing RDM from autofilling in embedded web sessions, but it is something worth testing. To verify if this is a local issue, you could set up a portable instance of RDM on one of the two machines affected by the issue. This would allow you to test with a completely clean configuration without having to affect your current installation.
Here are the steps to create a portable instance of RDM :
1. Download the RDM zip folder from the link below :
https://remotedesktopmanager.com/home/thankyou/rdmbin
2. Extract this zip in an empty folder of your choice
3. Launch RemoteDesktopManager64.exe from this folder
4. Register your license
5. Recreate or import one of the problematic sessions in this instance of RDM, to verify if the issue persists

After opening and connecting the portable instance to our MS SQL database it worked for two websites and then it stopped working.
When I deleted the folder and unzipped the zip file again the same as above happened.
I have sent a ticket from within the installed version including diagnostic information. Hopefully you can see something.
Hello,
Thank you for your reply! I have been assigned to your ticket, and will resume support over there. You should receive an email soon from the ticket!
