UltraVNC - Unable to scroll

avatar

Dear team,

We have a lot of sessions which can be accessed via VNC. We access these sessions via Ultra VNC viewer and we noticed that when we run the session Embedded or Undocked, we are not able scroll up or down. When we run the session external, we are able to scroll. However, we would really like to run the session embedded since RDM will keep an nice and easy overview of the opened sessions which we really need.

We also tried the build-in VNC viewer of RDM (FreeVNC). This works fine embedded and we are able to scroll when the session is open. However, we are missing the "File Transfer" option.
Is there a possibility to get the File Transfer option in FreeVNC or is there a way to fix the "unable to scroll" problem in Ultra VNC when embedded/ undocked?

We are running RDM version 2022.2.14.0

Kind Regards,
Mitch

Hi Mitch

Thanks for the issue report, and I'm sorry for the inconvenience. It's possible we aren't properly passing the "scroll" messages through to the embedded UltraVNC viewer component. I'll open a ticket and look into this as soon as possible - and I'll update this thread once I have some news about that.

We're currently working on implementing the UltraVNC file transfer inside freevnc; we hope to have something available in the coming weeks but I don't have a precise timescale for that.

Thanks and kind regards,

Hello again Mitch

I just made a quick test on my side and I was not able to reproduce the problem with scrolling.

Just to confirm - you are talking about using the mouse wheel to scroll inside the embedded UltraVNC session?

Can I know which operating system you are using for both the client and server? On my side, I tested Windows 11 -> Windows 11.

Thanks and kind regards,

Hi Richard,

I just did some tests as well and have the following results below.
We use UltraVNC viewer version 1.2.1.2. I also tried the latest version but this had the same results.

Test 1
________________________________________
Source Server = Windows Server 2012 R2
Destination Server = Windows 2000
________________________________________
UltraVNC - Embedded
Result: Not being able to scroll using the mouse wheel.

UltraVNC - Undocked
Result: Not being able to scroll using the mouse wheel.

UltraVNC - External
Result: Everything works (but we rather not use undocked for the visibility).

Test 2
________________________________________
Source Server = Windows Server 2012 R2
Destination Server = Windows 7
________________________________________
UltraVNC - Embedded
Result: Not being able to scroll using the mouse wheel.

UltraVNC - Undocked
Result: Not being able to scroll using the mouse wheel.

UltraVNC - External
Result: Everything works (but we rather not use undocked for the visibility).

Hi Mitch

I was able to reproduce and fix this issue. It only manifests on client operating systems older than Windows 10.

I'll try to post back here once the fix is available; I don't have a timeline for that but it should be in an imminent release.

As I said before, we are working on integrating the UltraVNC file transfer inside freevnc; I'd encourage you to watch the release notes for that in the near future.

Finally, we are working hard to improve the VNC integration generally inside RDM. Please don't hesitate to post back with further questions or comments.

Thanks and kind regards,
