Parent variable alternative when using templates

Parent variable alternative when using templates

avatar

Hi,

I'm trying to move from Sub connections to the use of templates as recommended to me.
Something that is stopping me is that when using subconnections, I'm able to use the parent variables.

So when using "sub connections":

Let's say I have have a Host (session) entry.

I can then add a subconnection for RDP and set the name on the subconnection to $PARENT_NAME$ (RDS), add a subconnection for SSH, set the subconnection to $PARENT_NAME$ (SSH).

If I have a management interface on the host. I can set the IP of the management interface in the custom field and access that IP from the subconnection as $PARENT_CUSTOM_FIELD1$.

How can I access the properties (variables) from the Host from within the template please?

Hello,

Thank you for contacting us on that matter!

I had a quick discussion with one of our engineers regarding your case. He tells me that to his knowledge your request is not really possible, as Host entries are not designed to use parent entry variables. With your use case specifically, he believes that it would probably be preferable to keep using sub-connections.

I'm currently in the Team trial period.
So I'm warry of selecting a product on a feature that seems deprecated.

Will the subconnections stay supported? Development of this part does not end?

Hello,

You can use them without worrying, we don't plan on deprecating sub-connections.
