After updating to 2022.2.12 and updating the database, I was asked some questions about User Specific Settings and there was a link to this page:
User Specific Settings Encryption Migration (devolutions.net)
After reading it multiple times, I'm still unclear on "Merge and delete", "Merge" and "Delete" means..
Merge and delete apparently does not merge, but replace data and delete it afterwards?
Merge will replace data
Delete will remove the data
I'm confused about what the consequences of these choices are and confused about why I should delete data sometimes, but not other times.
TL;DR: Please make the help page more clear
Hello Anders,
Thank you for contacting us on that matter!
This change was necessary because we moved to a new encryption format in RDM 2022.2. This prompt is meant to inform you of this change. The different choices below, give you options depending on how you and your colleagues are using RDM.
In the event that RDM is installed on more than one workstation, which is common in a team environment, it is possible that these instances of RDM are not always on the same versions. This is where these options come in handy:
The "Merge and delete" will overwrite the encrypted User Specific Settings with the data from the older Remote Desktop Manager and delete this old data. This means that if you go back to an older version of RDM and connect to the same advanced data source with the same user, your User Specific Settings won't be available anymore since they will be of a format not recognized by your older version of RDM.
The "Merge" option will overwrite the User Specific Settings on the RDM 2022.2 instance with those of the older version of RDM. This means that you will have access to your User Specific Settings on your RDM 2022.2 instance and your older instance of RDM.
The "delete" option will keep the "User Specific settings" that were found on the RDM 2022.2 instance of RDM and delete those that came from the old version of RDM. This means that if you launch the older version of RDM, your User Specific Settings won't be available anymore since the new encryption format will not be recognized by this version.
Let me know if that clarifies these options.

Thank you, James.
So to summarize:
Merge and delete = Save old format settings as new format and delete settings stored in old format. Not compatible with old RDM
Merge = Save old format settings as new format and keep settings stored in old format. Compatible with old RDM
Delete = Only keep settings that are stored as new format and delete settings stored in old format. Not compatible with old RDM.
You are more than welcome! That is correct.
