Jump Host Licensing

avatar

Hi,

I am trying to test using Jump hosts, as I work for for an MSP and a customer is going to be requesting that we only access their systems via a dedicated jump box.
I am following this help article: https://help.remotedesktopmanager.com/overview_whatisrdmjump.html and have a question on how the installation on the Jump host is suppose to be licensed.

The article states:

You can use the same Remote Desktop Manager license on the local and the remote instances. The Jump Host acts as a relay between the local and the remote systems, allowing to use the Remote Desktop Manager license that has been used on the local workstation to register the application on the Jump Host.

However the issue is the "local" client is licensed via a SQL shared data source, which of course the "Jump Host" has no access to and is not configured with anything other that a default source.

Any assistance in getting this working is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

The RDM running in a jump host environment doesn't need to be configured. Simply install RDM on the jump host, perform your first jump and RDM will be unlocked/licensed automagically via the jump communication/handshake.

We will update the documentation to add the Jump host licensing procedure.

Perfect thank you, that sorts it.

Are you able to confirm the ports required, it mentions a single port, so assume as long as you have a RDP port available that's all that is needed?

Thanks

Exactly, no special ports need to be open as Jump uses the virtual channels of the RDP session to work. Much like printer redirecting and others.
