Prevent RDM Favorites from syncing between separate RDM installations
0 vote
In the past, RDM Favorites were stored locally and that worked for us. At some point, this was changed and RDM Favorites are now being stored in the central SQL database (we use a central SQL database as our data source for RDM). Additionally, RDM Favorites now sync between separate RDM installations (for the same user). This creates an issue for us because we have segmented subnets in our environment and for example, systems (on subnet A) can only be accessed by systems on (subnet B), systems on (subnet C) can only be accessed by systems on (subnet D), etc. Whereas some shared subnets can be accessed by all other subnets but we also have those isolated subnets that can’t, so we need separate IT systems for managing systems on our isolated subnets. The problem that we have been having is that RDM syncs the Favorites between those IT systems (one on subnet B, one on subnet D and other subnets), and we have a lot of Favorites/systems/subnets.
We have a Feature Request to allow us to disable the syncing of RDM Favorites per RDM installation (even for the same authenticated user logged on to RDM) or a way to organize our RDM Favorites into something like folders (then we could at least create separate folders for each subnet). Since we have a lot of RDM Favorites, the Favorites pane becomes cluttered with systems that cannot be accessed from the subnet that we're working on.

Thank you!!
Hello,
You should already be able to create folders in your favorites so you can organize your entries:
Once you have your folders, you can drag them to the appropriate folders. Please note these folders are only visible in the favorites, and won't modify your vault's folder organisation.
At the moment favorites are synchronized for each user individually, we used to have two different modes (local vs shared favorites) but we removed the local ones since it brought a lot of confusion and the vast majority of users wanted them to synchronize automatically.
Let me know if the folder organization solves your issue!

Good call and THANK YOU, I did not see that option. I was right-clicking on Favorites (trying to do it the same way that you add folders in the Vault). Your method works for me (but I would also recommend adding the option to right-click on the Favorites to add a folder, I didn't see the "New Folder" at the bottom of the screen).
Thanks again!!
