Document Management Feature??

I've been hearing and researching into IT Glue recently and impressed by its multipurpose / addon capabilities very much like RDM's Addons but IT Glue is expensive and so I was priced out from the start as well as being unable to trial it to even find out if it's worth its price.

To my request: -

I know RDM currently has Documentation functionality but it got me thinking, what if this feature could be expanded similar to how IT Glue works with the ability to take Addons already used in RDM but expanded where possible to give Documentation Management where by every possible piece of info no matter in which app is all centralised with the ability to use said Addons / Addons Ext API's in much the same way RDM already centralises other Entries.

Basically, taking RDM's Documentation to the next progression so that RDM can become central to Documentation management too no matter the source / target app. Anyone that has heard of / used IT Glue knows what I'm getting at, I just saw since RDM can become a centralised app for remote access sessions etc it already has the underlying capability to be able to use its Addon universe which is already in place??

Anyway, I'd love to hear opinions on this Idea, additionally it could also work with RDM's other family apps available.

Hello,
This sound interesting and it's something we want to do eventually. This could be one of the major improvement planned for RDM 2022.3 (2022.2 will be release in beta soon). Could you give me more specific example of add-on you would like? I can already tell you that we are expanding the feature set of our RDM PowerShell cmdlet tools to support the documentation.

Thanks for the quick response, as far as new addons I don't have any requests right now, my request was more about the functionality of the documentation feature. I realise you can already generate html or markdown pages with embedded urls for other entries but presently this process is a bit cumbersome and takes a lot of work to get setup in such a way as I am envisioning this documentation management, as mentioned rdm already has the addon ecosystem there to make use of but my vision of this change would be some way similar to how IT Glue works now giving you a centralised Web portal for documentation that can have embedded links, docs or addons so that all aspects of said documentation is accessible in a single app.

I realise its a lot of work to accomplish but if a way could be found that follows how IT glue works a a central documentation management system portal works I really feel it could be an attractive selling point that could even compete in the DMS area like IT Glue, rdm had the addons available but not an easy and intuitive method to link all the available entries in centralised documentation.

As mentioned in the first post this idea may be easier to implement with Devolutions Server right for its hosting features for a portal type module, whereas RDM using advanced datasources ie DS or DPH would also work as per above.

Hope that helps get my idea across,
