Hi,
since upgrading to version 13 the RDM is nearly unusable. Everyday I have to use the taskmanger to shut down the process since it completely freezes, even when no connections (commonly RDP is used ) open.
This happens to most of our RDM users.
We use a MSSQL database for configuration.
We are currently using 2021.1.32.0 64 Bit.
We tried:
Installing RDP windows fix.
Switching between 32/64 Bit.
Another thing all users mention: Since RDM 13 the software feels sluggish in general. The UI often does not respond or takes some time to react to input.
I see there are some threads regarding this issues. Is there a general solution found by now?
Hello,
The slowness you are experiencing could be related to multiple factors and this could occurs at different moments.
Is there a specific operation that you feel RDM could be more responsive? Is it when opening RDM, when opening a session or when switching between the vaults?
How many entries do you have per vault? If you have over 5000 entries per vault, then you will notice that the application takes more time than usual to process that high number of entries. You can get the number of entries in Help - Diagnostic - Data Sources.
The logs could also impact the performance. Do you cleaned the logs on a regular basis? Please see these articles about it.

Hi,
thank you for your quick response.
We have ~ 1700 Entries in the datasource. This should not have changed since previous version.
The slow ui behaviour is not related a specific operation in the RDM. The whole ui including main menu reacts only after a delay.
Example: If I click on "File" the whole application interface blanks out to gray and is not responsive (like some rendering thread is blocked). After some seconds the ui is updated and the menu shows. For other ui elements it just freezes for some seconds. This delayed reaction/microfreezing happens on nearly every ui element (menus, tree-nodes, buttons) interaction. Sometimes clicks are not registered and a button has to be clicked twice.
I just mentioned this because this does not seem to be normal and may be related to the "main" freezing issue. This happens after some hours and the users are forced to use the windows task manager to kill the RDM task.
Example: I do not close the RDM in the evening and let the machine run over night. On the next morning the application is frozen.
Regarding the log I will talk to a colleague who is responsible for that kind of configuration. If I have a look at the "Application Logs" view it seems empty for the last 60 days. Maybe app logs are is disabled completely.
Thank you very much!
Hello,
The versions following the one you are currently using had multiple fixes for freezing issues. The last release for 2021.1 was the .44, which was very stable. It would also not require a database upgrade. You can download it with this link:
https://cdn.devolutions.net/download/Setup.RemoteDesktopManager.2021.1.44.0.exe
If you prefer not to install it yet, you can try it out with a portable version of RDM. You will need to do the following:
1- Download the .zip file below:
https://cdn.devolutions.net/download/Devolutions.RemoteDesktopManager.Bin.2021.1.44.0.zip
2- Create a new folder on your Desktop
3- Extract the content of the .zip file into the folder created at #2
4- Go in this folder once the .zip file has been extracted and run remotedesktopmanager64.exe
5- Enter your current serial
6- Add your data source

Hello Richard,
I currently am running version 2022.2.20.0 64bit Free edition. I am also having the issue if I leave RDM open for a while it goes unresponsive or leave it open over night I have to kill it in task manager and reopen. When I had the version you spoke of and other versions I had freezing from time to time but nothing like this.
I do realize that I am close to the 5000 mark for entries, but I have had roughly the same amount for the past few years. I have tried splitting my current data source into multiple to cut down the number of entries, but that did not help at all. I checked the logs and they are clean. I have clean slated RDM off my machine and reinstalled. I am using the 64bit exe. No luck as it still is freezing.
The biggest problem is I having been working on getting the enterprise version approved since a few of us are currently using and testing. I am at the point where I need to install RDM on the rest of my teams computers to start using this. With it freezing the way it is, it would be a big turn off for alot of my team members and would undermine what I am trying to do.
Any help would be appreciated so I can get this running smoothly again. I'd really prefer to not downgrade if at all possible.

Hello,
Thank you for your feedback.
I would be interesting to get a memory dump file once your RDM is frozen. We will analyze it and get back to you. Please see this article on how to create the mini dump files.
https://kb.devolutions.net/rdm_hung_rdm_dump_file_creation.html
Please use the secure link below to send us the requested file(s) and add this ticket number 37330 to the file name.

Have you only tested the Free edition connected on a local SQLite data source?
Would it be interesting to test the Enterprise edition connected on a SQL data source to see if you get the same freezing behaviour? If so, we can provide trial licenses for RDM Enterprise.
Best regards,
Érica Poirier
Erica,
Thanks for the quick response. yes the trial licenses would be helpful. Once you are able to provide me with the trial keys, I can get everything spun up rather quickly for testing.
I will leave my RDM open overnight and then send you the dump file.
I do appreciate this, as RDM is something that I have been pushing for, for quite some time.
Thanks
-Kris
Hi Kris,
Thank you for your feedback.
I will send the trial to you in a private message.
Best regards,
Érica Poirier
Erica,
I have uploaded the dump file as you had instructed for the free version. I have not had time to try and do this with the enterprise version yet.
Thanks
